Verbatim DVD -R, junk media to watch out for

    Verbatim DVD -R Life Series

I was in the store today and purchased some blank Verbatim DVD -R media. I got it home and first thing I did was to check out the Manufacturer ID on the disc. To my amazement, the disc checked out to be manufactured by CMC, which in my book is nothing but junk, and should be avoided. The label says made in Tiawan. Here is what the disc info looks like.

    Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info
    Basic Information
    Disc type: : DVD-R
    Book Type : DVD-R
    Manufacturer: : CMC
    MID : CMC MAG. AM3
    Write speeds: : 6 X - 8 X - 12 X - 16 X
    Blank Capacity : 4.38 GB
    : 4488 MB
    : 4706076672 bytes

I'm not saying that all Verbatim DVD -R are junk, just the ones that come in a white and blue package like this. The older style package that is blue and orange is the good ones to buy, says made in Singapore, with a Manufacture ID of MCC 03RG20, these are made by Verbatim, with the Azo recording dye. This is what the disc info looks like.

Thanks...But a little too late for me unfortunately.
I cracked it open and made a backup and it failed.
Gonna raise hell and return it and go the HD route.

Not exactly the right thread, Chewy. See that awesome search box in the upper right corner? Wonderful results await if you elect to use it (you should find a million matcfhes to "green screen").
