Post HDD PARTITION recommendation and must have homebrew

Hi I am about to purchase a wii and HDD for softmodding. I have looked around on here quite a bit on recommendations for particians on the HDD. The HDD I am buying is 500 gb and I want to be able to do homebrew, wii games, and be able to connect it to pc to manipulate the files if need be. I understand there is a program for the wii games transfer.
I want to download things for the wii before I get it and I was wondering what some must haves are for homebrew or anything wii related, any help would be greatly appreciated!

the guides on this site will usually have you installing usb loader gx which should take care of your hard drive. I'd start with homebrew browser (via homebrew channel) to check out some of the homebrew out there for the system. you should also create two partitions on your hard drive, one for fat32 and one for wbfs, as per the guide in recommended faqs. my advice to you is to look around and see what types of things you are interested in. avoid playing around with creating your own channels and customizing your systems menu until you are a more experienced user.

Aside from that, if you're looking for a good USB HD setup tutorial, Gen3SF has one in the Recommended Guides section of this site.

    Hi there,
I personally prefer to format my entire HDD to FAT32 (WD Elements 500GB)
Configurable USB Loader (V56FAT) for my games - Proberly the best USB Loader out there.
Wii Game Manager for Converting and Copying games to my HDD (.iso to .wbfs)
WiiMC to play Divx / Xvids

The only downside is you can't have Xvids / Divx files over 4GB(FAT32 Limintations) but i haven't come accross many of them.
This way the PC can see, read and copy all files on the HDD including games, no partitioning and no need to resize later when you need more space.
