Unfortunately I'm another noob with yet another problem. Here goes.
Once upon a time there was a man who bought a wii with a serial number of LEH2017XXXX. His dvd drive has D2c on the IC chip and numbers and letters underneath that and it also has the metal clip on the topside and no cut pins. He lives in England and for the life in him cannot use the wii tracker to find out what drive he has. So he bought a d2sun v2.02 chip with a presoldered wiiclip thinking he would be covered. After weeks of trying to get the chip working he came to think the chip was duff. No lights at all on the chip.
He contacted 'a man that can' and decided to go for the new d2sun v3 with presoldered wiiclip. Now he gets a light but only a solid red light. The light only goes on when the switch is turned off (blinking red) and then back on(solid red). The drive still functions ok with originals but will not take backups. Backups have been burned using imgeburn on verbatim dvd-r at 1x speed on an LG GGC-h20l drive.
I have posted this as a story as I am now nearly £100 pounds out of pocket, wasted lots of hours and losing my marbles over this issue. Is there anybody out there who can shed some light on my predicament. Am I the only man alive with this issue as it doesnt seem to be covered anywhere else on the net.
Any responses will be gratefully recieved.
Thanks everyone for the great support.
Hope to hear from you soon, cause i'm getting ready to retire from the modding scene.
Gonna start a new profession.
Many thanks for the speedy response.
Thats the second chip and clip ive had.If I pay for a professional service now I might as well have bought a premodded console. But i still dont know what setting it should be on. I'm thinking its d2c or d2c2. Once again many thanks.
Dark Mod - the wii-clip does work as a DIY solution, if it didnt the business would not exist at all would it?
lexus2a - as you are in UK, i can recommend you buy a pre-modded drive, that has the chip soldered on and you can just swap it for yours, hopefully that will be much less stressful. i would recommend 360upgrades as they are a official reseller of d2pro9 and maybe other chips too, and example of which can be found here
wii replacement D2C drive with d2pro9 V3 installed 360upgrades - pre modded wii replacement drive with d2pro9 v2 / v3 installed [wii d2c drive plus d2pro9 v3] - £75.99 : 360upgrades.co.uk, mods-modchips-repairs
you could even see if they will part exchange your two chips and clips! its a bit cheeky but worth a go right? lol
I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and order one now.I take it you recommend the d2pro? I'm not that cheeky so I'll write them off as an 'expensive experience'. Hopefully I might get my drive by monday!!!
Did you try contacting the reseller from whom you purchased the chips, they might be able to help you out. Also alot of time people don't firmly clip the wii-clip on the chip, the wii-clip should almost be touching the pcb board of the wii drive and properly aligned. Even a small angle will mean the connection may not be made.
