question about USB loading
so i just got into USB loading, i went out and paid $33 for a 16 gb flash drive. came home, used wbfs tool to put 2 wii game ISOs onto the flash drive (nsmb and tat vs capcom). i noticed they were compressed greatly, and i loaded them on USB loader GX on the wii, and they played fine. the usb loader gx also said i had about 14 gb free.
now, are all games going to be compressed like this?? i got the 16 gb flash drive assuming the game ISOs would be taking roughly 4.3 gb on the drive, so I figure i would be able to have 3 games on at once. but if it's compressing, I would rather just go back and get an 8 or even a 4 gb flash drive, i don't need that many games at once, and save my money.
so, is this compression something that is going to occur each wii game iso?
It's not compressing them it just removes the "padding" from the ISO that is used to fill the disk so the wii can read it. Some games are only 200MB and others take up to 4 GB and more.
It depends on the size of the actual game. For example a Dual layer will be around 7 GBs. Just dance is about 4GB, Mario Kart is about 2-3 GB. (This is after they have been added to the drive and the " padding" has been removed.
So I would stick with the 16GB and not get a smaller one.
For about $20 more you could have got a 50-80GB USB HDD....just a thought.

As Krank stated, the game sizes differ, so don't get a smaller flash drive thinking that all games are the same size once the filler zero bits are removed. NSMB is 0.39GB; Tat v Cap 1.44GB ( all star version), but games such as Deadrising, Dead Space Extraction, and Sonic and the Blk Knight are all over 3 or 4GB.
ahh gotcha. ill stick with 16 then. thanks.
while we're here, i play alot of ssbb, which i use gecko for codes and textures. can i use gecko with usb loader??
Yes u can. you can also download codes from geckocodes.org with usb loader.
awesome. the flash drive is the best investment wii related i've made heh.
2 more questions.........
1. wario land shake it, i put it on the usb drive, it loaded, i played thru the first level no problem, and now the game won't load. the screen just stays black. im gonna delete it and put it back on the flash, see if that fixes it, but i figure i'd just post here.
2. can ssbb be put on it? i tried, but WBFS tool didn't make an attempt to install. that's the game i play the most so i'd like to have it on the flash drive. i read online that there are issues with usb loading. also does anyone know how many gb that would use up on the flash? thanks

Here is a list of game sizes after transfered to WBFS.
Scroll down a bit and you will find it.
I recommend buying a usb to IDE/SATA converter on ebay for less than 7 dollars including shipping from hong kong. Then find an old hard drive or PC that everyone has kicking around or throws out and try some of the drives. I did it with my 80gb WD and I love it. 7 bucks for 80gb, also old IDE drives sell for real cheap too. That way you can fit a lot m ore games on it without having to switch to PC. Along with full sets of ROMS.
1. did you install anything or change any settings before the black screen? try installing the latest custom ios, it's rev 19.

The game plays fine on rev 14. No need to update to 19.
