    VLC Media Player

Most of you have probably heard of or use this program, but for those who haven't it's worth checking out.

    About VLC

VLC media player is a portable multimedia player supporting most audio and video formats (H.264, Ogg, DivX, MKV, TS, MPEG-2, mp3, MPEG-4, aac, ...) from files, physical media (DVDs, VCD, Audio-CD), TV capture cards and many network streaming protocols. Also plays RM files (RealMedia).

It can also convert media files, transcode and act as a streaming server over unicast or multicast and IPv4 or IPv6. It doesn't need any external codec, program or codec pack to work.

Several skins are available and you can download an editor and create your own.

I used VLC a long time ago. Don't remember there being any editing or conversion options included. Was this stuff added in the last few years? It's been about that long since I used it.

Ya it has been updated quite often in the past 2-3 years with many features added. I'm Not sure exactly when the conversion was added but I know the editing feature was added recently.

I mainly use it to play video and audio formats that other players have trouble with.

Ya the subtitles feature is nice, I haven't come across a file format that it won't play.

does VLC supprt playing blu-ray files?

  9. #9
As far as I know it won't play blu ray in the original format. If it is ripped and compressed to a diff format VLC can play it.

This is something that has been talked about for a while on the VLC forums but I don't think it was ever achieved.

I could be wrong as I have no use for playing blu-ray on VLC so I haven't looked into it much.
