i would get a bigger hdd for your wii than 40gb... i know we most all are on a budget but 40gb will get you like 10games
and for compatibility look HERE
My tax return will be coming soon and I thought that I should buy a cheap 40 gb Hd for my wii console so the DVD drive doesn't wear out. My question is a soft-modded wii picky about what HD drives will work and which ones wont? If so can someone here recommend a HD that will work for my wii. I am on a tight budget. I am hoping to get away with spending $30.
Can you even buy 40GB hard drives these days? All I can see are used ones for £20.
A 160GB 2.5" WD passport unit is only £39, while a 320GB WD passport unit can be had for £45.
There may be other drive manufacturers available and most will work but WD Passport Essential are the Dog's nuts.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
I want to say thanks to all of you who've come here to help answer my question and I am checking the compatibility and when my tax return is in my account I shall be picking up a drive. May I ask is there anything special I have to do with the drive before using it other then formating it?
@Teal, I don't understand Pound and American dollar differences. I am a noob when it comes to currency >_< however do you know how much that 45 pounds is in american dollars? thanks in advance.
I've seen some WD passports essential for $25! I may go with that when my tax return comes.

I'm using a 500gb seagate that I got from Wal-Mart for $50 US. The store closest to me still has 2 of them at that price. Don't know if it's a universal Wal-Mart price or not though
If that's 45 euros then it'll be around 62.79 US. If it's UK pounds then it'll be around 71.97 US. If the converter I used is right

Who are you to question why your god doesn't want me to believe in him?
I got my WD one on black friday for $69 (staples price, price-matched @wallyworld) --- that's the 500gb one quite popular with the Wii. Normally priced everyday @ $99.
Ontario Canada here.
I purchased a 1TB Iomega HD for $99.99 at futureshop.
Granted I've only put 350Gigs into the WiiHD I plan on using the rest of holding movies and music.
