Dvd brand that should be avoided.
I've been using GQ and TDK to burn my games without any problems. However, I recently got 100 Memorex DVD+R (UPC: 034707056213) from Office Depot. I tried to burn 4 times and my wii couldn't recognize the discs at all.
The problem is that the discs are +Rs. You should be using DVD-Rs for your backups to read properly in the wii.
Really? I've been using DVD+R though. Thank you for the tip. =)

Memorex DVD+R's worked at higher speed but Maxell DVD-R did not at 4x
I am a bit confused by this burning issue. I was using Memorex DVD+R at auto speed (probably higher than 4x or 2x) and the games worked fine. After a few hours I got errors and strange occurances of lockups - such as 2 sets weather and news windows on the main screen. I was not able to remove this by a system reformat. I returned the wii and started over. I got the red light of death - no blue light on my D2pro9v3 with clip so I had to unsolder the CLK bridge and solder a J wire from the modchip to the wii motherboard. Everything worked - red and blue light.
Now I read that I should use Verbatim DVD-R's at 4x with Imgburn and Incremental set vs DAO. The local Walmart does not carry Verbatim so I bought Maxell DVD-R 30 pk. I set Imgburn to Incremental and set the speed to 4x this time. Now I burned Cooking Mama and it was not recognized by the wii. However, my original Memorex DVD+R Simpson game plays fine.
I am concerned about using these Memorex DVD+R disks as not to start up the errors again I saw on the 1st wii I had.
What is the key element here? Can I use the Memorex DVD+R's if I burn at 4x (or is it 2x) and incremental? I read that they should be 4x nothing more and nothing less - so using 2x conflicts with that moderators statement - as well as using DVD+R's.
I am going to Radio Shack as I hear they carry Verbattim DVDs later. I would like to be able to use the remaining few "working" Memorex DVD+R's at any speed AND especially the new "non-working" Maxell DVD-R's I just bought last night.
Any help here?
Well I tried again to burn Cooking Mama at 2x writing speed on this Maxell 4x+ DVD-R. It came up in the wii window and then when I clicked on the game to start, it said that it could not read it.
I then went back to my previously working Memorex DVD+R at higher auto speed writing (previously burned Simpsons and Mario Galaxy), and set it to 4x (lower speed than auto) and it was unrecognizable after burning Cooking Mama.
Very odd if Memorex DVD+R works at higher write speed (what ever Auto is) but when set to 4x which is it's lowest speed, not recognizable at all.
It's off to get some Verbatim DVD-R's at Office Depot or Radio Shack.
Any ideas about this?
Gigaware DVD-R brand works! Radio Shack sale $6 for 25 pk
I went to Office Depot and Radio Shack and although they listed Verbatim online, they did not carry them in their stores. However Radio Shack had a 53% off sale on their Gigaware DVD-R 25 pk for only $5.99!
It said it had 1x to 16x compatibility - However, using Imgburn software with Incremental set and 4x write speed, it still said the speeds allowed were 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x. SO how is it compatible with 1X, 2X, ect..?
Anyway I burned Cooking Mama - and it worked fine this time!
I will try more titles under this Gigaware brand at 4x and incremental using Imgburn.
