Made the jump to the Wii Universe

Greetings! My name is Scott and a few weeks ago I joined the ranks of the Wii owners. For years I have been with the PS2 and had always assumed that when the price dropped enough, I would trade it in for a new PS3 so I could use all of my existing games. However, in Sony's unexplainable wisdom, they decided to make only a few models that were backwards compatible (and we use that term loosely) so it would seem that I would need to hold on to my PS2 to play my current games anyway.

So my opinion of the slogan "It only does everything" is low to say the least.

Once I came to this realization, I backed up to take a closer look at the other 2 platforms (Xbox and Wii) The genre of game that I enjoy the most are problem solving games (Myst was an all time favorite) RPG with a mission based plot line (Final Fantasy series) and I've really enjoyed the Guitar Hero games. While Xbox has some of those, it seems to really exploit the gore and violence which I'm not a fan of. On the other hand, the Wii has Mario brothers, Sonic, and other cartoon type games that are much less graphic and so, for me, more enjoyable. So I quickly came to realize that the Wii was for Me (or Mii, we both like it equally)

Right now I just have Wii Sport and the Wii Fit Plus. Initially I didn't care for a game telling me that I was morbidly obese, but I have lost over 10 pounds so far, so this has turned into yet another blessing. I have been attempting to sell so of my older PS2 games on Ebay to set myself up with at least one Guitar Hero game. I found a converter that will let me use my PS2 guitar with the Wii.

So now I am at the point of learning the ins and outs of the system and that is what has brought me here. I'm not one to take the cover off and start adding resistors, but I might try a sofmod if it really gives me a nice feature that you have to work a little bit to get.

So I'm anxious to see what there is to see.

I know.....I had a lot of information to share huh? Now get this, I've been looking around the site here for a bit and I haven't really figured out what Homebrew does. I'm sure I will figure it out in time. There is probably a thread out there that I haven't seen yet that explains what each mod does. Even the Modding for Newbies is assuming that I know what I am trying to accomplish by taking all of these steps and risking turning my pure as the driven snow Wii into a brick (at least I figured out what a brick is)

I need a thread to educate me so I can understand the newbie thread.....wow that is sad.

Tutorials are all here: ►RECOMMENDED FAQ's, GUIDES & TUTORIALS ONLY ◄
You first need to find out what version your wii is, to do this go to wii options (bottom right on menu) then wii settings, at top right it will tell you version.
You also have to decide what you want to do, playing back ups from disc or from usb loading.
usb loading is the doggs bollocks, all your games at press of a button. No discs lying around.
PM me if you need help.

In short homebrew is gateway to wii heaven

Hi and welcome to WiiHacks severly

If you need advice or help for anything Wii related you have joined the right site, whether its hard or soft modded.

Don’t be shy, ask if you are stuck, just don’t expect other people to do all the work for you.

Before you start anything, make sure you read the rules go over the tutorials, and most importantly, search before asking questions.

Make sure you post in the correct areas of the forums.

Here is the site index wiihacks ultimate index written by ShadowSonic2

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

If you already have Homebrew, upgrade to 4.1 written by Dogeggs

Don’t update to 4.2, but if you are already on 4.2, complete 4.2 guide written by Messie

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.

And please do donate to the forum if you are able so we can go on helping the Wii community.

I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.
