worth a try.
CONFIRMED - Do NOT hook up the HDD and delete games using WBFS Manager or other software. Use wiiflow or whatever USB loader you are using to delete as this updates the cache and drive locations properly. Probs a noob mistake, but hey, thats what I am!
Please dont think of this as a cross post. I have posted a full reply in the wiiflow installation thread here (awaiting approval) as my issue has only been recreated by myself using wiiflow.
However if you are now all of a sudden experiencing black screen on all of your games for no apparent reason see if you can remember the first game you ever ripped to the drive and see if that plays.
Because after using WBFS manager to delete an unplayable game (splinter cell - double agent) all games that had been ripped AFTER that title stopped working however this was the second game that i ripped and the first still worked.
Only way for me was to delete all games, bar the first, and then re-rip. Worked fine after that.
My gut feeling is that this is why so many people are getting blackscreen issues on previously working drives and possibly why cloning to a bigger drive is causing failures.
I think somehow the 'positional tags' ie what tells your loader to go and find what game at which location on the WBFS partition are no longer correct and causing a lot of these black screen issues, especially where the whole lot go for no reason.
I am using wiiflow and HDD details are in sig.
Would like to see if anyone has had or can recreate this issue (NOT on your HDD full of games please, but if you have a spare only!!!) using other makes of HDD on wiiflow or if other loaders give rise to this issue.
Also please respond if you do remember deleting a game from WBFS partition just before your problems started.
See if we can find a common problem to nail those black screens.
So far I can only think of avoiding this by a) dont delete games from the HDD b) possibly makie custom .png reading DOES NOT WORK for nonworking games, just to prevent hangs.
Thanks for reading.

worth a try.
My WII console is 4.2U and I'm using Seagate 80GB 2.5'' HDD with USB loader GX. I also get this messages when run the USB loader " IOS236 not available using 36 instead". Any idea what it mean? I hope this information is helpful.
im on 4.1E and still on rev 13 with 1tb seagate hdd and gx loader.
will take my hdd to a friends house with a wii on 4.2E rev 14 and see if it works on his, will get back to u with results
I get that too (am on 4.2) but the games still load so what the hey !? - If it ain't broke - don't fix it !
Im on 4.0E, running latest USB Loader GX. Have encounted a similar issue in wbfs after removing a game. However, it seems to have affected games in no particular install order. Some that have been there since I went to hdd and others more recent.
I tried to remove via wbfs the broken games and reinstall. This worked, but then another game would not load in its place?
I delete and reload games all the time, never had a problem with GX and a 80 GB Samsung.
I have get my usb hdd to boot up now after changing the Seagate 80GB to a Fujitsu 180GB. But i still get this error though unable to find ISO236, loading ISO36 instead when loading from USB loader GX. Has long I can boot up from the usb hdd i don't much about the error.
