USB Loader GX Freeze using channel only *fixed*
Hi all, long time searcher, researcher and reader - first time poster.
Today I finally did it...I soft modded the v4.0e Wii at home using dogeggs' marvelous guide. (huge thanks btw mate...a great guide.)
I used a Sandisk SD card and an old IBM HDD in a 2.5" Nexstar enclosure.
Everything at this stage is good - backups recorded to HDD fine, the loader can see them, I have cover and disc art safely tucked onto the SD card etc.
The ONE problem I am having is as follows:
I made a channel for my USB Loader GX v1.1 (from this link) by following the instructions in the ReadMii file attached to the above download, and it seemed to create just fine. The channel wad file I used for this was version r649.
I can boot the Wii, select the GX loader channel and navigate my 6 games (lol) perfectly. The trouble starts when I go to actually play a game...black, frozen screen - no warnings - and I have to hard reset the Wii using the power switch.
Initially I thought I had missed an instruction, but I doubt it...I had eveything printed out and crossed the steps off as I did them.
I did some testing and found an interesting fact...the games all play fine when I go to homebrew and start the usb loader GX directly from there - just not thru the channel.
Anyone have any thoughts as to what might cause this strange thing?
I will tell you that I did not complete steps 4 or 5 in dogegg's guide. He said they were optional, so I chose not to. Is the 'option' now not such a good idea? Could this have caused the problem?
Any experienced replies would be very much appreciated.
I am so happy with what this mod promises to deliver (graphically etc) but this is the one thing that will make it hard for my kids to use.

I was stuffing around with a few ideas, and ended up installing the GX loader channel again, this time using the version r600.wad, not the r649.
This has fixed my problem.
(The r649 was the one that the 'ReadMii' file for USB Loader GX pointed me too, so it is worth noting for other hackers.)
I deleted the old GX loader channel using the channel manager on the Wii, installed the new GX loader channel (v600) and have now tested all game files with the new channel version.

I just updated the GX loader version to r894 so I could read my Super Mario Brothers image and the whole system still works well. (Thanks for the NSMB fix Guide too btw - brilliantly written.)
Just thought it was worth an update for anyone else who may have a similar problem since I had all the dramas with the r649 version.
The trick seems to be, read the guides, and don't be afraid to keep your system up to date.

Speaking of keeping your system up-to-date. Did you do Step 5D in the Dogeggs tutorial, that was not optional-the IOSes that are installed are some of the IOSes most games use. If you encounter a game that displays a frozen black screen on loading, you might need to install a needed IOS. Read Posts #1 and #2 in this guide HERE.

I didn't do step 4 or 5 (as I mentioned in the OP) as they were optional, but your link is a good one for me to get to know.
