Simple question about the newer wiis
Ok so I read that some of the newer wiis, when soft moding were unable to play backup from the diskdrive, but is it all the new ones? Or would it be the ones that came with 4.0 and up. Or did they just randomly pick new ones that came 4.0 already. I know the only way u can tell if the system would play burned copies is to open it up. Just wanted to know if anyone knew before I started pulling stuff apart Thakns guys I did search but couldn't find

you can usually tell by checking the serial number and if you did the soft mod and backup dvd's don't run then it probably has the D3-2 chip.

Most likely, any Wii produced and bought within the last six months, give or take will have a D3-2 drive. Mine shipped with 4.1 and was purchased in November, 2009 in the USA and had a D3-2 drive. You can do the softmod but observe if you get any of these errors:

If you are laready using Verbatim DVD-r burned at 4x, try switching to neogammar6 and cios36rev10 (will not work for new wiis/this has worked only for LU39 models). Also this error will persist on newer wiis, meaning that they have the new D3-2 chip which cannot read backups at all. Only option for them is USB loading.
These can be found on the Error Index thread located here. You can do USB HD, replace the PCB/logic board attached to the drive (or entire drive swapout), or go WODE.

Ok So then the only way of finding out is by 1. opening her up, or B. Sofmod and see if backup disk will run. Now I haven't soft modded yet but what would be best, cus I've been reading but both have there ups and downs but hands down what less hassle USB backups or disk backups?
Thanks nightstah that's exactly what I need to hear
