How to setup Wii hdd usb
I have a 500gb Western Digital that I would like to use exclusively for the wii games. I am trying to figure out how to partition the drive so as to get the most out of it.
I am currently running Messies 4.2 software mod. I also have a 2gb sd card in the wii.
I think the drive should be partitioned in NTFS for games that may be larger than 4gb. That make sense to me but I'm not sure.
Can I set up another small partition for the files on the sd card so I can remove it?? And if that can be done, is that recommended?
I just want to set the drive up properly so it's as efficient as it can be.
Another good guide would be this one: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...r-usb-hdd.html
As putting a second partition is good for saving settings/images for some loaders, and gives you some space for things like roms/movies/music whatever if you decide you want to get into the other programs the wii can utilize
I read that already and it tells you the basics but it doesn't tell me if I should set it up as a fat32 or ntfs. It doesn't tell me how many partitions would be ideal. I guess I was hoping for a bit more detail, however, that is the guide I am going to follow.
I will go check out that guide now.

Have a dual partition setup.
Have a FAT32 partition for your first block (perfect for saving the images and config files for your loader)
Have a second partition for your WBFS partition (unformatted)
This is how I have my setup.
You can have a tripple setup if you wish.
FAT32 > WBFS > NTSC (For movies etc)
Just depends on what you want to do. I think an ideal situation would be 50% wbfs, 25% fat32, and 25% ntfs. That way you have plenty of room for wii games, plus you can be ready for just about anything else.

Now that's the info I'm looking for. Here's what I want to do:

1GB FAT32 Partition on the HDD, rest as WBFS. The FAT32 is for the Covers, Config Files, and Themes for the Loader (USB Loader GX in my case). Also the FAT32 Partition can house a backup of your NAND and any programs you want to store out of the way.
The WBFS will be for the games obviously.
And the setup should be in that order too. FAT32 first, RAW second (Formatted to WBFS in WBFS Manager 3.0)
yes i would make more room for wbfs, but i wouldn't leave out the other partitions alltogether. Technology and tools are always evolving and ya just never know what is coming next, and you'll want to be able to handle it. some loaders are supporting fat32 partitions to load iso files from, but since i personally have never tried it, I won't advise about it. I would increase the amount of space for wii games but be ready for anything.
