    Exclamation D3 & D3-2 board swaps...

If I have a D3 or D3-2 Wii and swap in a D2C board, will a modchip work correctly? I've seen posts saying it works, and some saying chips like a WiiKey2 do not work correctly after a board swap. I've been doing lots of searching lately, and not found enough info to NOT be confused.

I already know about USB loaders and Wasabi DX for the D3, I just want to know if THIS works. I'm trying to keep my options wide open with this new console.

    Thanks, JD

PS one more question I've not found - after softmodding, will a D3 drive be able to boot Wii/GC games on DVD-R?

After you replace D3-2 board with new D2C, is it possible to softmod Wii, or is it necessary to install modhcip in order to run backups from DVD and install HBC etc?

Why would anyone do this unless you just like to tinker with things. It seems far easier to get ahold of a used wii or to trade someone that has no idea about playing backups.

You can do a total drive swap out (easiest) or simply the PCB/logic board attached to the drive (this is the drive controller board). You'd have to unsolder 4 wires from a connector that goes to a spindle motor on the drive, however (relating to PCB swap out; not applicable if doing full drive swapout). I did a full drive swap out.

Odd: my significant other's cousin said "no thanks" on the idea of a drive swap out even tho (at the time) he didn't play backups... it seems he constantly underestimates my capabilities (til you know... he said "say why don't you do that hack to my Wii, will ya"? :-)

I like doing stuff like that, even though i haven't done this. It's just that if I were the average person just trying to get my backups working and didn't know much about this sort of thing, it would be the last thing i would try and do.

I wanted clairification on the subject since there really has been none. I know a full drive swap would fix it, but that's 2-3x the price of just the board. If price isn't a concern, why not buy a whole new set of wii & gc discs??

Anyways, the fact is for a modchip solution, people who want certain features with a D3 are kinda SOL, and D3-2 users SOL for any dvd-r usage.

BTW I'm not your average person. I've chipped dozens of PS1's & PS2's (ranging from 44-wire v1's to newest slim's), dozens of xboxs, and several repairs for various consoles. Buying RSOD's ps2's and reselling with a new laser was quite lucrative. Long story short, soldering a few 30awg wires is like throwing a rock for me.

Ok this sounds like it is right up your alley so to speak.
