Hello and thanks! And happy new year...

Hi all. My name is Tony from Australia and I'm a gross newb as far as Wii goes, although I hack PCs and I once hacked a Commodore 16 game console! And that says something about my age.

I have a 4.0e Wii PAL console which I paid to have hacked with a wiikey (I think - was originally modded by me with a D2PRO but didn't work) and set up for region-free and USB hard disk. It has HBC, USB Loader, USB Loader Channel, Gecko OS and some other stuff installed. It works OK and I have about 8-9 games on the HDD now, but I need to understand it better as they guy who hacked it doesn't communicate very much.

I've tried to read as much as I can on these forums, but I get like Homer Simpson when he's being lectured to ... after a while all I get is "blah blah blah Homebrew blah blah blah IOS blah blah blah" and then my brain turns to jelly and I puke.

So some things I'd really love to know if someone has the time to explain them to me are:

... how come some games back up to USB really easily, but others just pretend to and go "pink screen" when you try to run them? (Have looked at the list of compatible games for USB loader v1.0)

... how come most games seem to start out as 4GB ISOs but when you back them up in USB Loader, some only backup like 0.16GB or 0.24GB of data?

... what should I do when I stick a game in the disk drive and it says "I'm going to upgrade your Wii now and f**k up any mods you have installed" - like Guitar Hero 5?

... and how can I make "channels" out of the games backed up on my USB hard disk so I don't have to run USB Loader every time to play them?

So many questions. If any of this is explained in "Newb 1.0" somewhere, please feel free to linkmii. I couldn't find it, though I did find lots of other really interesting stuff if I ever get brave enough to risk a brick.

Also take note that Nintendo has been putting some new drivechips in their systems that will disable playback of ANY burnt discs. To see if your Wii is one that has this new D3-2 chip refer toTHIS!page and cross reference your serial number. Please note that USB Loading is still functional even if you have this chip.

Please read, reAD, READ till your eyes bleed. Go over everything until your sure you can attempt these mods. You don't want a bricked Wii because of a step you might have missed.

    Have Fun! and Good Luck!!!!
