Modding my wii... am I right?

Hi, Right I've spent a few hours reading about soft and hard modding. I've read so much that its all becomming a blur lol.

My wii is new. Having checked the database it seems its 75% sure to be 3-2 so am I right in thinking that puts soft modding out of the window?

If I'm going to hard mod it seems to be a choice between the wode (which I can't afford right now) and the wiikey fusion. I dont mind hard modding really but is that my only choice right now?

no, look at the softmod any 4.2 thread.

Thanks, but I'm still confused. In the guide it says "DVD-R

You need to use either Verbatim DVD-R or Ritek G05 DVD-R for your games, most other discs won't work. Have a look at our disc section for more info.

Also note, if your console came with 4.2, there's a chance you'll have a D3-2 Drive which will not load DVDR Backups."

So do you load games from a card?

right, if you have that, a soft mod will allow the use of a usb hdd to load your games from, thus extendind the life of your drive

double check your firmware version in the wii settings menu. it is in the top right hand corner and will look something like this:

    3.2e

TBH i recommend using a HDD as it increases load speeds and means you don't have to worry about disks getting scratched. PLUS all the games you have that are originals can be dumped to the drive thus meaning you have a perfectly legitimate backup of the game!!!

my favourite loader is USB GX
once you have finished the softmod i would think about putting CIOS38 rev 15 on it as it solved an issue i was having with a number of my games.

Thanks, well the firmware is 4.2e. In theory it all sounds great. I'm sorry for sounding a bit stupid, but when you've read about all the different mods it can become confusing.

So, to start I need an sd card, and then I follow the guide to the letter and use an external hdd?
