I think I've come to the right place!

First of, let me start out by saying I first signed up last night as I was having some major problems with my out of the box Wii modding adventure. I was told up front that following a guide I had, I would have no problems playing dvd backups. Well, after following the guide, I only ended up with the homebrew channel installed and had no idea there was more.

After browsing through some forums here, I have discovered that this will be a very good resource after I somehow resolve my problems.

So onto me. I'm a 31 year old father of 3. The wife and myself have bought the Wii for the kids for Christmas this year along with New Mario Brothers, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers. After I bought these games and the controllers, I realized that maybe there was a way to "mod" the Wii into playing backups. Apparently it's pretty easy if you follow steps carefully and I'm fairly good at doing so. I was just mislead. After Homebrew was on, I rushed into these cIOS things and loaders and really have a mess on my hands.

I'm going to make a new post in the correct forums and try to run down everything I did and hopefully get my problems resolved. If anyone reading this would like to follow the thread and lend me a hand, my kids and myself will be very happy come Christmas.

I'll post the link here to the new thread I create. It will take me some time as I was to thoroughly explain what has happened.

Thanks and thanks for having me!

Hi and welcome to WiiHacks moteasah

If you need advice or help for anything Wii related you have joined the right site, whether its hard or soft modded.

Don’t be shy, ask if you are stuck, just don’t expect other people to do all the work for you.

Before you start anything, make sure you read the rules go over the tutorials, and most importantly, search before asking questions.

Make sure you post in the correct areas of the forums.

Here is the site index wiihacks ultimate index written by ShadowSonic2

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

If you already have Homebrew, upgrade to 4.1 written by Dogeggs

Don’t update to 4.2, but if you are already on 4.2, complete 4.2 guide written by Messie

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.

And please do donate to the forum if you are able so we can go on helping the Wii community.

I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.

Just like the first time I tried to mod my wii

If you have installed the homebrew channel, then you could probably just find the right tutorial, and follow it from after the "installing homebrew channel" step.

Go to the wii system menu, click wii and then go into the settings to see what system menu you have. (It's in the upper right corner of the screen).

Then select the right tutorial to follow depending on what you want, and what system menu you have

    Good luck, and happy hacking

Thanks for the quick replies. I did get homebrew on no problem but after 6 hours, it's gone.

I will be thoroughly reading all the guides you posted and here is the thread I made:
New Wii out of the box, did I destroy it?

I feel like such an idiot not reading more but 3 different people assured me that if I followed the homebrew link, it would work. Again, please forgive my stupidity. Just trying to make this work for the kids Christmas
