Rockband Instruments Using Hermes CIOS 222/223 and USB Loader GX - New discovery!
I have read just about every post regarding the rockband instruments on this site! Not completely understanding the CIOS's and after hours of reading I believe i understand the concept.
So I backed up my original RB2 game on to USB Loader GC and of course the instruments do not work from the USB HDD.
I installed Hermes CIOS 37 merged with 38 to CIOS222. (From uLoader package 3.2) My system is sitting at 4.1U. Using USB Loader GX R850
Here is the part that might help others, on NeoGamma I didn’t not see the option to select CIOS but I did on USB Loader GX. When I changed it to use 222 the screen turns black and the dvd drive light turns on. Almost like its looking for the game (of course i tried putting the game in and no change)
Interestingly enough when I put a copy of my game into the drive and use the DVD drive mount option in GX and select CIOS 222 it loads from the CD and the instruments work!!
Can anyone tell me why I cannot load it from the HD but i can from the copy via the same program!?
I tried to load 222 with softchip and it did not work at all.. Read Error.
Once again, I have read just about everything I can relating to this topic. It would be great if a senior mod could comment. I found it odd that the Hermes CIOS37-38 to 222 refused to load from the HDD..

K yeah got these problems too
When you boot the RB2 with USB Loader GX and USB HDD, do you set the game to boot with IOS222? You may also want to try a different version of GX, it's not uncommon for something that was working in one version and not working in the next version with GX.
And I'm assuming the uLoader 3.2 package has Hermes cIOS installer v4 included. You may also want to try the Hermes installer from the uLoader 3.1 package - Hermes cIOS installer v4, maybe the installer is different but shouldn't be. That's the one I have installed and it RB2 boots fine with Configurable USB Loader from USB HDD.
Can you get any of the latest RB or GH games to boot from USB HDD with your current setup?
1 User Says Thank You Stomp_442 For This Useful Post
Same issue, was running a very old rev of GX did the step by step merge of files you kindly made a tutorial of. (thanks again by the way)
Saw this post so I upgrade my GX to r815c, tried it again with 222 but same issue, black screen and blue flashing from the DVD-ROM on the wii.
So I saw there was a 222.wad file of the v4 hermes on the same post so I loaded that in case I may have incorrectly merged my files. Full restart retried but still have the same issues.
Only with games that require 222.
Thanks again and we appreciate your help!
Thanks Stomp 442,

1. Yes I do set the game to boot with IOS222.
2. (try a different version of GX) Is there one you recommend or are currently using? I am on R850 now and besides this issue it seems very stable.
3. (uLoader 3.2 package has Hermes cIOS installer v4 included) Yes I believe so.
4. I tried to install the CIOS38/37 merge on CIOS222 with the uLoader 3.1 AND 3.0C Hermes software as well and no change.. (I think its all V4 CIOS anyhow)
5. You had me curious about the Configurable USB Loader so I tried it, same results as below when using CIOS222.
6. I can get the Game to load from the HD using USB Loader GX and CIOS249 (but the instruments don’t work). None of the games work on the CIOS222 (unless a backup copy is in the drive and you load the game using the dvd mount function in GX Loader). If not, screen goes black and blue dvd light turns on when you try and run it from the HD.
Could you let us know what configuration you are using? i.e. CIOS37 merged with 38 on CIOS222, ect? Did you do the 223 & 202CIOS update as well? (I havnt touched them). I figured that didn’t matter much since I am not using the CIOS223.
I am not sure what CIOS38 merged with CIOS60 is for...
Do you have specific options set for the game to load from the configurable usb loader?

What, no update on this thread? That's disappointing because I'm in the same boat with my RB2 instruments: black screen on ios222 and no instruments on cios249. Hopefully somebody will post a solution to this problem!
There are so many threads on this topic. Are you booting from USB HDD or a disc?

On your PC use NUS to download the below files (DO NOT CHECK THE PACK WAD BOX).
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT CHECK THE PACK WAD BOX (We want the content not to be packed).
Go to Database>IOS>IOS37>v3612 then click on Start NUS Download.
Go to Database>IOS>IOS38>v3610 then click on Start NUS Download.
Go to Database>IOS>IOS60>v6174 then click on Start NUS Download.
You should now have 3 folders that NUS downloaded.
Now for the second part:
Download this file HERE Mirror Link : HERE and extract it.
Look on your SD Card and see if you have a folder similar to 00000001 if you do delete it.
We are now going to move the content that are in the above folder's to the proper place so Hermes can find it (MAKE SURE YOU GET THE PROPER CONTENT IN THE PROPER DIRECTORY).
Go to the extracted NUS Hermes Folder and go to the directory of 00000001/00000025/v3612 and then copy the content that is in the 0000000100000025v3612 folder to this directory. So you will have 00000001/00000025/v3612/content in the directory.
Go to the extracted NUS Hermes Folder and go to the directory of 00000001/00000026/v3610 and then copy the content that is in the 0000000100000026v3610 folder to this directory. So you will have 00000001/00000026/v3610/content in the directory.
Go to the extracted NUS Hermes Folder and go to the directory of 00000001/0000003C/v6174 and then copy the content that is in the 000000010000003Cv6174 folder to this directory. So you will have 00000001/0000003C/v6174/content in the directory.
After you get this done drag the 00000001 folder (that is in the NUS Hermes Folder) to the root of your SD card.
Now go back to the guide and follow the Hermes 222/223 section again.
Has anyone finally managed to get rockband instruments to work using USB Loader GX?
Im on a PAL Wii, with a PAL Rockband 2 and the latest revision of the application.
The game starts using IOS222 but instruments do not work.
However, they do when i use uLoader but why not have only one app for all?!?!?!
I'm using USB Loader with an USB disk.
