    Softmod or Modchip

I am new to the Wii hacks forums and have a simple question. I spent time searching but could not find an answer although I am sure it must have been asked before. Which is the better choice softmod or modchip ? I have read the tutorials on both but still can't decide. Is the warranty the biggest issue with the modchip or the cost. Which method will a stand a better chance not bricking my Wii ? Thanx

Well with a modchip you stand very little chance of bricking because its a hardmod while softmodding has 10x more chance of bricking.

In my personal opinion both together is the best combination.

It depends, if you want to spend money and want ease of use then get yourself a mod chip. If you like free and are fairly compitent in computers then I would suggest softmod. Keep in mind that you could go in both directions as softmod and hardmod compliment each other very well. Plus there is a whole lot more to be done with softmod than with hardmod.

Thanx for the quick replies. But now I am a little more confused. If I do the modchip why would I need or want to do the softmod ? What does the modchip do that the softmod doesn't ?

Mod chip will allow you to play backed up games ONLY. Softmod will allow you to activate HomeBrew, which will let you play emulators, homebrew games and has many utilities that you can use on the console itself.

Using the softmod you can play games off of USB external hard-drives, very nice feature that no modchip has at the moment.

Except if you want that feature in a modchip there's something called "WODE" its expensive but it'll be the future of modchips for the wii. Look around the forum for information about it.

3.1-4.1 Softmod Tutorial (Works on all wii's!)

    Wii 4.1u | Bootmii (IOS) | Priiloader 0.2 (Rev 32) | HBC 1.0.6 | Neogamma R8 Beta 7 and Neogamma RC3* | USB Loader GX REV 919

The best feature of the WODE is the ability play Gamecube ISOs from a HDD. FAVS is the guy you would want to talk with about the WODE.

If you have the an extra 100 bucks, go for the WODE. If not you can get either the Wiikey Fusion, D2cpro, or the wasabi.
Come to the Irc room to get help or just have fun

Motivation alone is not enough. If you have an idiot and you motivate him, now you have a motivated idiot.

both for the best of both worlds =D

all these other nubs only do softmods, you can clearly be cooler when you say you've got hardmod as well
