Good day, eh?
Hello - new to the Wii and modding (only hacking experience is limited to making copies of CD-rom games and swapping the .exe files to remove the "insert Disk" pop-ups).
I've got 2 kids (5 & 3), and want to protect the original game disks (and may download the occasional iso file).
My system is a LU70 serial number, and firmware version is 3.4U. From what I can tell, this setup is escellent for a softmod, but if i'm wrong, please let me know!
You can check the drive data base to see if it has the latest drive chip

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.
I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.

Thanks for the link to the Drive Chip Database - I'll have to get the full S/N to check if I'll be able to play DVDR's.
If it won't play DVDR's, would a big USB Stick work well?... I'd almost rather go that way in the first place... put a bunch of games on it and just leave it plugged in.
I think you may have to buy a USB HDD. 3.4 does not support SDHC cards, and that the type you would need to run games.
