Why cant anyone explain to a novice how thry should be upgrading and what they are installing and why? no matter who i speak to they talk to me like i built the wii and know all they are talking about!
ive read the tutorials and FAQ and i;m still stuck......someone must be able to help!!!!!
Failing that i know i;m gonna give it a go and trash my wii or not have a clue what i have installed or what its for...................please please help i'm getting rather frustrated with this softmodding and with the wii......if i dont get some help soon its honestly going in the bin in full working order and i will move on to something more enjoyable! lol!
Which guide are you using and what steps do you have questions with? I know it can be a lot to take in. Lots of people assume others know more than they do and it can be frustrating. Just human error is all. Most people on this site are VERY helpful
I'll help you out what part are you stuck on?
I'm now into retro games console hacking and development.
Currently working on Nintendo 64 if you want to help PM me.
first one that helpes this guy out gets rr.... along with him if he does not start to read the guides
I apologise for my 2nd post but ive only been looking into softmodding for a while and everyone i speak to speaks in jargon, cryptic or mysterious language not making any sense yet all the tutorials say how easy it is......for anyone that post negative i'll ignore your comments due to me knowing i have read the guides and tutorials and FAQ and i am still struggling so if youve not got anything positivr to right please direct your comments elsewhere....for the people that have posted positive comments and empathised a bit........again i'm sorry for the 2nd post but i wanted something to get peoples attention )
my original post was: -
Hi Guys....Firstly....i'm a total novice at this softmodding lark, i got my wii out the loft last weekend after it collecting dust for 8 months (been to busy to play it) and decided i wanted toi start using backups on it from friends, Family etc all i can say in my defense is ive worked it IT for 9 years and anothing you advise me will be tsken on board, you wont be tearing your hair out answering this post! hehe!
Now ive taken a look at the tutorials, tried to educate myself on whats what but it seems such a complicated subject or am i getting it out of hand?! lol!
I mean all i want to be able to do it hack my wii so i can play backed up games mainly, playing DVD's and other gimmiky things dont really appeal just yet so you know ) ive taken a look at the 4.2 guide cos thats what my wii is and i see on there optional things to change that are potentially dangerous bit near the end that are optional yet i have no idea what there for, worried about future updates on the wii etc messing with the mod.......it just seems there is no standard hack to just get backed up games played....i'm not stating that thats just how i feel
i saw a tutorial on youtube, mailed the guy direct for some advice and he was being very cryptic, quite zany and vague with all his reponses which in the end kinda thought this guy wont take into consideration i'm a novice who needs some guidance
I told him all i was really interested in was playing backups on the wii and he's just told me his tutorial allows me too: -
Play games from HDD, Change themes, install custom channels, block updates, change the health screen to video, play DVDs, Cheat on ANY game (if you're a cheater), you can put an entire OS on your SD card and use it, move the disc channel, and pretty much whatever you want.
but being a total novice think those changes should maybe come in time, first things first kind of thing......its like anything you change something investigate another and before you know it your wii is all singing all dancing
so was just looking for some help in what i should do, ive ordered a 2GB SD card ready to softmod the machine, ive got backups on the way its now just a case what instructions to follow and what you would suggest doing to begin with
i'm thinking to follow the 4.2 guide of course but whether that is what i need to do, again i'm not totally sure, i dont want to get to elaborate with a process i know nothing about and end up trashing my wii with things i was not looking for.......i'm not a massive gamer i just want the ability to play more games when i get the wii out
so whoever reads and replies to this 'request for help' lol picture someone who has done as much research via tutorials, FAQ's and is still scratching there head a little, looking for simple lamens terms what i need to do to get backups playing on my wii yet still keeping the wii safe from updates, hazards future changes and whatever you feel i should do i will do to the very last detail as i just want to be 100% sure what i;m doing
if you could help me on that it would me a massive relief and i would owe you a drink sometime!
i look forward to hearing from you
so if any of you could shed some light and help me out i will be eternaly greatful!!!! lol!
if you start out a post with attitude no doubt you are going to get it back ..especially in a forum where people are taking time out of their day to help other people out FOR FREE also your typing is a bit muddled and a little hard to understand ...to coin a phrase "patience is a virtue " try looking at the tutorial section ...if you are uncomfortable modding your wii then i suggest you either 1-leave it be or 2- find someone else more qualified to help you out ..but please can the attitude just to get "attention " it might be the kind you don't want
Well I was one of the lucky ones that did my modding before 4.2 came out. I did not know what an IOS was or what bootmii was or anything having to do with homebrew. But before I went and tried to do a tutorial I got myself familiarized with the terms and what each thing did. I read almost every post from here.

then I went and read the other one.

I liked these post and they helped me understand.
I read all these before I attempted to softmod my wii and even then when I did attempt I took it step by step and didn't skip a part and now my wii is softmodded and fully functional. What I am trying to get at is I did a lot of reading over a couple of days until for the most part I fully understood what I was doing and reading those post is what most people fail to do.
***And by the way I was going to answer his other post which he quoted here until I saw what Messie wrote *****
