From the sound of things. You have outdated ios and you need to install some new ios. Either you can do nintendo's official update and lose the ability to play out of region games. Or you can softmod your wii to install the new ios.

It wouldnt matter. Once that wii has firmware 4.2 in it. No more out of regions for modchips.

Sounds like your chip is blocking the game updates. Ensure they are in-region games, release the update block in your chip settings and allow the wii to update from the discs.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

i removed the update blocker from the chip in the config menu but when i did that the game wold not even show up in title screen anymore. the game is a pal game which is right for my wii. would u recommend i update the wii firmware to 4.2 to see if that helps?

No I would not recommend updating to 4.2.

Nintendo have really compromised hardmod users ability to stay up-to-date with System Menu versions.

I would recommend softmodding with an ultimate view to installing the required IOS 53, 55 and 56 so you can play your games.
