I followed this guide with good results
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html

And wanted to use the GC Backup launcher 0.2 after wreading this thread.
I googled and found an article. How to play Gamecube backups on your wii without a modchip.
    Unfortunately it says:
This instructable will not work with Wii firmware 3.5 or 4, since in both firmwares Nintendo killed the Twilight Hack.
I'm running Version 4.1E on my Wii. Does this mean it won't work at all?

This is an old thread, but just in case someone happens to be in a similar situation to me, I thought I should post somewhere to help those people, and this seems the best place to post.
I have a Japanese Wii, bought around launch time, and I only just softmodded my Wii using Letterbomb in order to play the UK version of Xenoblade. Once I'd made it region free, that opened up a whole world of import Wii and Gamecube games that I'd always wanted to play, including Sonic Gems. But I found I had the same problem as Maxtrix - I got Disc Read Errors when I tried to play the "big 3" Sonic games in the collection; Sonic the Fighters, Sonic CD and Sonic R.
After searching on and off for hours for a couple of weeks, I finally decided to try NeoGamma R9beta50, and now I can play everything in the Sonic Gems collection! It was dead easy, too, I just followed the install readme and I was away.
I realise that all the kind peeps on WiiHacks and similar sites are only trying to help us when they say to be careful, read everything, etc., but it was because of that that I had was nervous about trying anything and bricking my Wii. Also, all the advice was for backups, and I'm using an original retail disc. I'm not saying don't listen to the experts of course, but, anyone else in my situation might want to try NeoGamma to solve your Sonic Gems needs
