    Modding japanese black wii

Before I start, I'd just like to say that this is my first post so I apologize if I have broken any rules or posted this in the wrong section.

Now for my question: I recently came back from japan with a black wii (I haven't taken it out of the box yet) and I want to mod it so I can play backup games from all regions. I am really scared to brick it as I don't have warranty and there is no way I can go back to japan and get a refund so if someone who has softmodded their black wii please hold my hand through this process by providing some links/videos etc. Thank you for your time.

When you first power on your wii it may ask you to update, don't.
The latest system software is 4.2, but thats not recommened at the moment.
Use the guide for 4.1. Make sure you use the right region, its very important.

Here is my welcoming note to first time posters.

Your wii will probably have the 4.2 update already and a D3-2 Board. To softmod a 4.2 wii; do this:

The problem is that D3-2 Boards prevent DVDR from being read so you must load backups via USB.

Okay, I've been hearing that 4.2 is the homebrew killer. So you said I have to make sure I use the right region... so I can only select one region? Also black wii is the exact same thing as a white one right? (other than the bad ass look)

    Thanks WiiJohn!
EDIT: Thanks to ShadowSonic2 as well, its a good guide.

ps: forgive my nubness, my brain is a size of a pea.

Make sure that you use the right hacks for your region, e.g Preloader which is good brick protection uses different files depending on your region. Also the difference about the black and white wiis is that, the black wii usually come with the 4.2 update and a D3-2 Board which cannot read DVD backups but USB backups. Only few white wiis are beginning to have D3-2 Boards.
