Will the new D3-2 drives get rid playing DVD backups... forever?

By now I am very aware of these new drives, and I'm aware that my Wii has one. Unfortunately, I bought a 100 pack of Verbatim DVD-Rs, and since I keep getting DVD errors (1101 and 972) I'm assuming that I have a D3-2 drive, so i have to start using a USB HDD. Is it possible that we'll find a away around this problem, though? I dont want to let my 100 pack go to waste.

hardmod or change the drive would be about your only options apart from USB

Actually its USB loading or change the drive. I read that its physically impossible for the new drives to read backups...

well, my thought was, that if drives are unable to read (not just blocking them, but not even recognising them) DVDs than nothing can change that
