DVD+R/-R Issue? Just noticed.
For the record, I haven't been able to load any of my backups with my softmodded wii.. Loaders complaint about dvd read error..
From what I've read it all seems to point at the media being DVD+R..
Funny thing is that this Wii was being used with a modchip and all of the backups ran perfectly. I took the chip out, perform the softmod and none of the backups load.
I've seen threads about how the DVD drive on the Wii isn't able to run DVD+R, but I've seen it read them just fine.
I don't have any DVD-R right now to test it but what do you guys think?
In the meantime I'm gettin the chip back in..
its not that the Wii wont read +R, its just that its thought that +R puts more strain on the wii's laser, so its better to stick with -R.
Which guide did you follow for softmodding your Wii? as it seems you may have missed something.

The DVD+R format is divergent from the DVD-R format. Hybrid drives that can handle both, often labeled "DVD±RW", are very popular since there is not a single standard for recordable DVDs. There are a number of significant technical differences between the "dash" (it's not a minus symbol) and the "plus" format, although most users would not notice the difference. One example is the DVD+R style ADIP (ADdress In Pregroove) system of tracking and speed control being less susceptible to interference and error which makes the ADIP system more accurate at higher speeds than the LPP (Land Pre Pit) system used by DVD-R. In addition, DVD+R(W) has a more robust error management system than DVD-R(W), allowing for more accurate burning to media independent of the quality of the media. Additional session linking methods are more accurate with DVD+R(W) versus DVD-R(W), resulting in fewer damaged or unusable discs due to buffer under-run and multi-session disks with fewer PI/PO errors.

But.. can the modchip make all the difference in my case?
I'm telling you.. all of my backups are on +R media and I never had any problem until today that I softmodded and took the chip out.
Can you confirm that a softmodded should read from +R media, even if it's slow or what not?
I'm consistently getting a DVD read error from the loaders.. Originals play fine.
I just wan't to know if it's because of something I did wrong (is there a way to verify?) while softmodding or it simply wont read the +r..
PS.. I did everything on the guide xcept going to 4.01.. I'm at 4.0U

This will take all of your skill, some of your cunning, and a little bit of patients.
Ok if you have a disc thats a major brand like memorex, most programs can allow you to change the book type. Change it to dvd-r and games should run. My dvd+rw are of lesser brand and wont let me. I had to buy dvd-r. But if you must buy dvd-r, they are literallty a buck each at walmart (10 pack is like 9.8x before tax)
I really don't care much about it.. I installed the chip again and all my DVD+R backups are running again.
