to answer your questions 1: it can be bad to use a nintendo update to update your wii. For one thing, it could ruin homebrew. It could also erase stuff you need to play backups. Both those things mentioned can be re installed though. Also, if you had your console soft modded before you updated to 4.2 using nintendo's update, you will brick it. really the reason nintendo has the 4.2 update is to purposly brick those consoles that are softmodded. The problem is that some non modded wiis are still bricking. Nintendo is having a real problem with this. 2: Your one of the few that was able to update to 4.2 without bricking. Now if you do want to softmod, youll need to downgrade. Read the tutorials on this site to guide you through what you actually want to do. 3: if you are running vista, some people have been having problems upgrading their framework. If you have xp, you shouldnt be having any problems. Im running framwork 3 I think.
