Is it possible to backup my Wii disks?

I am not seeking to make illegal copies - only my right to a lawful backup.

You can use a special LG drive (use search) to ake backups.

You need a mod-chip so that you can play backups (either yours, or the one of your friends, or the one from people from japan, just in case they get hit by another atom bomb, it's illigal in every case).

When you have a mod chip you also can use a SD gecko to create your backups, which is cheaper then the already sold out LG drive.

    Hmm...wuts a SD gecko?
I already had to change 8 of my original discs bk they get unread, so im thinking on getting a mod chip. would be cool to use a SD card instead of discs.

You still need a DVD to play games.

You can only use the SD Gecko to create backups.
    Or to play ROMS.

Use google.com and search for SD Gecko, the first link is the page of the manufacturer:
SD Gecko - Secure Media adapter for Gamecube and Wii for loading homebrew files

    cool

    thank you for the answer.

would be cool if we could run the games from a usb disk, like having all the shortcuts in the wii menu
