Wii Price Dropping on September 27th.

Now that Microsoft's Xbox 360 has lowered its prices and Sony's PlayStation 3 has done the same, Nintendo has followed suit with a cut for the Wii. Starting on September 27th, Wii starter sets will retail for $199.99, knocking $50 off of the current MSRP.

The price point applies to all standard one-Wii Remote, one-Nunchuk and "Wii Sports" bundles, according to a press release sent out Thursday. In addition to keeping the system's price competitive with the Xbox 360 and PS3, the cut piggybacks on Nintendo's high-profile game launches for the fall, "Wii Fit Plus," which hits stores on October 4th, and "New Super Mario Bros. Wii," which is slated for November 15th.

"Wii has reached more video game players than any game system before because it attracts everyone -- both men and women, and people of all ages," Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales & marketing Cammie Dunaway said in the release. "Our research shows there are 50 million Americans thinking about becoming gamers, and this more affordable price point and our vast array of new software mean many of them can now make the leap and find experiences that appeal to them, whatever their tastes or level of gaming experience."

The $199 price point levels the Wii out with the 360's Arcade bundle, which now sells at the same mark without a hard drive.

Beginning October 12, Nintendo announced that for a limited time only, there will be a Wii Sport Resort bundle that comes with two Wii MotionPlus accessories for $59.99 (USA), instead of one Wii MotionPlus for $49.95(USA).
