some drives aren`t compatable check on the list
USB Devices Compatibility List - WikiTemp
ok hope this is of some help...
Hey guys, you're truly my last resort here.
I've been working days on end trying to get my wii to recognize my USB external Hard Drive without much success.
I've followed every guide and instruction I could find without any progress.
Regarding the hard drive:
Vendor ID: 04b4
Product ID: 6830
Originally 4.0e, safely upgraded with special tools to 4.1e.
Homebrew and Wadmanager up and running (also bootmii and preloader.)
The wii works just fine with my two disk-on-keys, 8 and 4 gigs of space.
The Hard drive has 232gb on it.
I formatted it using WBFS manager successfully, but every single loader (including but not limited to: uLoader, USBloader GX, gamma, Gecko, and more) just act as if it's not even connected. Doesn't matter weather or not it's even formatted, I get the same errors.
I tried partitioning the HDD to 2 parts, one FAT32 and one NTFS, still nothing.
All loaders say "no USB device recognized".
uLoader says "ERROR: USB device is detected as HUB!!"
Any advice before I buy a new hard drive and throw the old one out the gorram window?
Thanks in advance,
also check that the WBFS partition is primary and active
Thanks, but I already tried that. No help. It says on the list that it works fine, with one confirmation.
It's also primary and active.

This may sound silly but your not using a usb hub are you? the wii doesn't support usb hubs.
Tried both slots about a dozen times each.
And no, no hub. Just the regular USB cable I use to connect directly to the PC.
old usb_hdd are power surgers.
spin it up with ext pwr supply.
Make sure you have at least cIOS rev10 installed, cIOS rev14 recommended. But since your USB stick works then so should a USB HDD.
If you load USB Loader from Homebrew Channel
1. turn on Wii, HDD off (no power)
2. select homebrew channel
3. after homebrew channel boots, power up HDD
4. after you are sure HDD is powered up, select USB Loader
5. USB HDD should be recognized
If you load USB Loader from Channel
1. power up wii, HDD off (no power)
2. after Wii menu boots, power up HDD
3. after you are sure HDD is powered up, select USB Loader channel
4. USB HDD should be recognized.
If this don't work then you do not have something installed right, or your HDD is not compatable. I haven't seen where you tried Configurable USB Loader, my favorite. I used to have to use this process to get my Seagate FreeAgent 500GB USB HDD to work, but since the release of cIOS rev14, my Seagate acts like it should, with no more issues.
