    Bootmii nOOb help!!

    Hi All,
I've managed to get the HB channel on my 4.0e Wii via Bannerbomb. At the same time I put on DVDX and Bootmii installed as IOS on my SD card. I also attempted to start the process of putting on a USB loader...but after the first process failed (4.0noCIOSfix, something about a network failure?...not connected to the net obviously) I've left it alone, and will buy a modchip instead. Anyway my questions are

    - The 4.0noCIOSfix process that failed; Has this done anything to my wii, regardless of the attempted install failing?
    - Bootmii as an IOS; Has this done anything to the original Nintendo IOS. I've since removed the files from my SD card. If it has done anything, how can I get it back to a 'virgin' 4.0e state. I haven't made a NAND backup, but I'm also not going to install further homebrew/softmods. Am I at risk?

I've modified plenty on other consoles before, but this would have to be the most confusing with the multitude of different tutorials etc...should have educated myself more before jumping in methinks.

Have you installed a cIOS to play backups? that could be why you are getting that message, you could try using the Trucha Bug Restorer if you haven't already installed a cIOS.

Bootmii installation doesn't change the official IOSs as it is written as IOS254. While homebrew may brick your wii, the chances are usually low. There is a good guide to get your wii back to virgin status in the tutorial section. Searching usually solves most problems.

Nope, haven't gone any further than installing Homebrew/DVDX/Boomii really. The only other process was running CMDVDX34 to Downgrade IOS35 but I get

    initializing network
    net_init failed: -116

So considering that failed, and seeing though I've only gone this far, would a system format be a viable option (Brand new Wii, used probably three times...so I'm not losing anything)?

On another note, I've just found out its a D3-2, so no modchips for me until they come out with something that supports them.

Do not format, that won't remove everything, and you might not be able to reinstall homebrew. Which guide did you follow?

You know this stuff failed because you do not have wireless network settings stored on your wii? Some of these apps you are runnning to mod your wii need internet access. If you do not have internet access then look for an offline guide to mod your wii.

Not worried about reinstalling Homebrew, I was only interested initially because it was a cheap way of playing originals backed up if I proceeded further. As for the guide...it was one of a multitude of tutorials covering the bannerbomb exploit on 4.0e Wii's. Not sure.

Saying that though, I'm not worried if the homebrew channel stays, I'm more worried about what Bootmii has done (installed as an IOS, not boot2, and all Bootmii files have been removed from the SD card), and what, if anything the failed attempt at downgrading to IOS35 has done.

If I dont run the risk of bricking the Wii, I'll leave it alone. I only intend on using it 'normally' from now on, so if what i've done will have an effect on playing from originals/future updates etc etc its all gotta go.

If a system format wont do this, what will? AnyTitleDeleter??

    Hello all,

I just installed Homebrew and could only install Bootmii as an IOS. Then ive backed up everything and safed it on my pc. If i did get bricked then how would i go about saving my wii? i read that you cant do a recovery with bootmii from a IOS??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    You read correctly.

The trouble is that Bootmii/IOS is loaded by IOS and if you try to copy onto itself you'd get some sort of access violation. At the moment Bootmii/IOS is probably there as a beta placeholder while the hackmii guys develop some super hack that will allow you IOS guys some protection (fingers corssed for you).

Preloader is the next best thing.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

    Hi Tealc,

Is there anyway now to remove bootmii IOS and install it as boot2? it didnt give me the boot2 option before but is there another way?

    Cheers

No. Boot2 is only available to older Wiis with different booting hardware code.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
