    WD Passport Essential power drain?

I'm just about to get an external drive for the Wii, I had finally plumped for the WD Passport Essential 320gb (PCWorld have the white one for 54 ) ...but, I just read a thread where someone mentioned that the Wii may be damaged, as its not designed to handle that much drain on the USB power?!?
I really fancy one of these drives as I didn't want MORE wires and plugs behind the TV and also the white passport would look better beside the Wii LOL.
Have any of you WD Passport Essential users had any issues with these drives? is there any proof that using a USB powered drive can harm the Wii?

    Cheers

I dont think that the HDD could draw current from the Wii, enough to raise temperature... The usb port gives 5V dc constantly, these should come directly from the rectifier (the big grey box in the middle of the power cable)... anyway, i am not too sure about this

Cheers guys I'll give it a go. Worst case scenario I'll swap my WD 1Tb powered drive I use with my PC for the passport drive.

Dont want to scare you off, but these kind of damages appear in the long run... They stack up...

I use the WD My Book Essentials 1GB. I've used it for several months with no issues. I love never having to dig for a disk to load. I'm sure my Wii will last longer because of it at least the drive which is never used.
