I need some advice on DVD-R brands

I had been doing some reading on Google and read that Taiyo Yuden were the best blank DVDs on the market, so I had bought a stack of 10. Well, needless to say, after trying to burn The Conduit ISO, the burns keep failing miserably. Only one copy managed to get as far as the menu screen. The rest don't even load in the disc channel.

My Wii has the most recent softmii applications too.

Well, I'm down to my last Taiyo Yuden DVD-R so I bought some imation brand DVD-Rs from my college book store to try as well.

Still, I'd like to know just what brand is most commonly used for burning for the Wii with the most success rates, because if Taiyo Yudens didn't work, I'm curious to see what does.

Personally I use Sony DVD-R with AccuCORE, I have never had a burn fail and they have all work perfectly. I burn them at 4x, and I have burn a back up of The Conduit and it works prefect! You can find these DVDs anywhere..Bestbuy,Walmart...etc

yeah in order i would recommend:
    #1...verbatim
    #2...sony
    #3...memorex
never NEVER use HP, they do not work, they are terrible
I've even used staples brand and they worked great as well.

I would rate DVD recordable media this way:

    1. Taiyo Yuden
    2. Verbatim
    3. anything else

I base this on 1000's of burns, normally I never get a coaster from any media unless the media it self is faulty, I would say the worst I ever had was TDK -R 8X(MID:TTG02) and Memorex -R 8X(MID:CMC MAG AE1). It might be worth it to verify your burns to see if you're getting bad burns or the media is faulty.

The MID is the Manufacturer ID, like CMC MAG is a manufacturer, you can see this info in IMGBurn. The last memorex I bought were 8x and swore to never buy again. I wouldn't doubt that memorex are still manufactured by CMC MAG. Most of the media you buy in a store will be made by either CMC MAG, or Ritek, or something worse (except sony, they make their own), that will include store brands, and name brands like fuji film, memorex, maxell, hp, phillips, etc. I saw a lot of CMC MAG with 8X media, but it seems like a lot of the 16X media are Ritek (out of the brands I bought). But like I said, I rarely get a coaster on any media, be it junk media or quality media. If it's not TYs or Verbatims, I don't expect the disc to last. Just a simple google search of CMC MAG or Ritek will give you a lot of information. But I did buy a brand called Tevion -R 8X a few months ago from Aldi supermarket that had a Manufacturer ID: MCC 02RG20 which is what Verbatim -R 8x are. I just like to buy different media to see who makes them. Stay away from the ones made in India, like JVC brand, them are junk. Sorry for the long winded post. All the above was my opinion, we all have one.

    the key of success:
    -- buy 16X DVD-R, not 8X
-- burn the dvd-r at 2X, or the most possible speed of ur dvd-writer
-- try serveral brands, select the one "that fits ur wii beautifully" and keep buying it.
one brand may hv a few model or series. they perform "differently"

my comment -- different DVD-R supports differnt Wii supports different countries

Don't use philips DVD-R 1x-16x. I tried burning 2 games with this brand and they all fail. You may get a boot once in a while but you'll be able to play five minutes before the disc fails to read and tells you to refer to your wii operations manual. Now I gotta find a brand that works. Preferably one that's not expenisve.

only genuine Taiyo Yuden are sold in nothing less than a spindle of 100. Anything less & you do not have the genuine article
