cant get any games to play
Plz plz plz help me out..
I have spent many days on the net, searching for what could help me fix my brothers wii problem, have read about ios and cios etc, but still doesnt understand what to do...
a couple of years ago, I bought a wii, with wiikey. A few months later, my brother decided to buy one too, and I think I remember that there was a "change" in wiis, and that he got a different chip than me. Heres the first problem, dont know wchich one.
Anyway, I recently bought wiifit, and of course I upgraded (without knowing the consequenses)
After hours of trying and failing, I acually managed to downgrade it, followed some guide, and all my games are working fine.
My brother have bought wiifit too now, and as wise as I have become I prevented him from alowing the wii to update(he didnt have homebrew channel either)
We doesnt live in the same city, and I have by telephone support guided him through installing homebrew channel, and cios downgrader-so that he know has version 3.2e (he had 2.0 something)
But every game he tries to start, goes black...the games are super smash bros, mario kart, raving rabbits, familiski and the wiifit itself...
Please help me understand what Im doing wrong, and tell me what I can do to make it work..
Im tempted to let wiifit upgrade(I have installed dvd update block with starfall), and than try to downgrade, since it worked for me..(perhaps some ios are missing?have installed ios36)
I dont know which chip he has, but Im sure he hasnt upgraded it since he got it..
could that cause the black screen?
Is there a program that can run, so I can get to know which chip he has? (so I can update it for him)
I will be extremly thankful for any help, as it feels my head is about to explode soon...

Black screens like that usually indicate missing IOS, which ones he is missing though I don't know. You could try patching smash bros to use IOS30 and see if that works?
Thank you for answering...
what about, removing the dvd update block I added with starfall, let the wii update with wiifit, then downgrade? shouldnt I get all missing ioses then? Is it "safe" to let the wii upgrade to 4.0 now? I managed to downgrade following the guide, so every wii is downgradeble (for now) as long as homebrew channel is installed?
can I download ios30 from internet? havent gotten around to reading about patching games yet...
IS ther no way of knowing which chip without opening the wii, and what could happen if I try to update with an wiikey update, and it isnt a wiikey... could I ruin the wii/modchip?

First off you will be safe to update to 4 so long as you have cIOS249, use r8 if you don't intend on using the usb backup launcher, if you do use r9, if you haven't got either of them at least install r8 as it could come in handy whether you update to 4 or not. You could stay on 4 and let Preloader or Startpatch take care of your disc update blocking.
I would try updating off the wiifit disc first though, see if the games work, then roll back and they should work still. Patching games is simple, you just drag your iso onto iospatcher.exe and then input the ios number you want it to run off. If you need any IOS files have a look here
As for the chip thing, open it up and have a look
Hi, and again thank you very much for answaering
I took a chance, instructed my brother into burning firmware update 1.9s for wiikey, made sure he hade cios 249rev 9, and made him update with wiifit.
All games are working fine...
So, you are sayng, he can stay on 4, and block any updates from nintendo with those programs? cant they update without me knowing it with firmware version 4?
And, about patching, will that mean that Im forcing the game too start with another ios than it is supposed too?

If your games are all ok now then forget the patching thing. I don't think they can update you without you knowing...it hasn't happened yet and there is no auto update code the programs just block disc updates, though if he updated with wiifit isn't he on 3.3?
The weirdest thing....
I checked tosee firmware version, and it was 3.2.e,stil!!
I had just assumed that he was on 4, since that was what happened to me...
When I upgraded my wii with wiifit, it upgraded the wii to 3.4 I -and during the days I tryed to read about why my games didnt work(and about downgrading), I suddenly was on version 4, so I believe you get an auto update in 3.4...
