Unhappy Super Mario Galaxy - DriveKey

Has anyone had trouble with SMG with the drivekey? Specifically with the first 2 cut scenes having choppy/jittery sound? I have burned several dvd's at 8 and 4x all being Verbatim DVD-R, 4 different Wii's.

Please let me know if you have or know a solution for this.

Yes, the 3X speed of the drive key effects this game in the story screens

So does the game run choppy all the time then? I read that some others don't have any problems with it. Could i be a combination of the burning speed and the dvd itself?

I have actually burned the game and havent played it enough yet to know, it was my understanding its just the story scenes, I also read somewere that if you hit the home key for a second or two when it gets choppy it lets it get ahead and is better. Like pausing a video on line to let the buffer get ahead, but I can't confirm this. Your burning speed will definately effect this, burn at 1X if possible.

Maybe today I should start Mario Galaxy today, would be a good way to spend a Sunday actually. I started Destroy all humans yesterday, thats pretty fun!

same thing here, the cutscenes are extremely jittery and unwatchable, but the actual gameplay is alright. I think it was me who said the thing about e home button but that just buffers 1-2 secs which then play alright, it doesn't make it watchable, just why I thought it was because of the lower speed on the DK.
    cheers

    Thumbs up

i was having problem playing SMG except it never got choppy, it would go to black screen at cut screen and my wii would lock up to the point that i had to unplug it.....i tried hitting the home button as soon as it started this time and it worked, and so far it is working like a champ.
i have drive key but not sure what version.no softmods

It's not caused by the 3x drive speed, but rather the way the 4th generation ribbon chips like DriveKey, Wasabi DX and FlatMod all work (on the fly patching of data passing the bus). Check out this test at WiiNewz: GMODZ/MADMODS Drivespeed Test 6x vs 3x - WiiNewz - Wii modchip & hacking community

Yes, it is just the story scenes that have choppy video. Gameplay is not affected. Same as WarioWare: Smooth Moves. I can confirm that pressing the home key to make it buffer some seconds of video does help a bit. Burning speed (and media brand) does not make any difference on my setup, whatsoever. I have burned more than 100 discs with Wii games, and they all work the same for me regardless of what brand of media I use and which burn speed I apply (4x, 8x or 16x). Not a single bad burn so far.

hey blackjack0095 so your saying the video's on SMG are not jittery, may i ask what dvd burner you used, and the program used in burning this disc. Oh and what mod chip do you have, id just like to compare, in order to try to get mine working smoothly, thanks

    donwloaded and burned Mario Galaxy

    Well this is my setup:

    Super Mario Galaxy PAL
    Drivekey (yellow sticker)
    Laptop burner (tsst-corp)
    Platinum DVD-R 16X
    UltraISO

I burned it at 3x with ultraiso on platinum dvd-r 16x. The video is not jittery, it plays fine and i can watch the whole movie, just played till the first save. The only problem i came across is my sound, its not perfect. Thats only for the first movie where bowser takes away the castle. But the video's work perfect. I am going to try another iso just to make sure. I will let you know.

Same with mario kart. I hear that peopla have problems with the gameplay or something, no problems for me. Game is fine and the video's to.
