drive key settings
I just put a drive key in my wii. It's a D2C2 drive on NTSC.
It plays the NTSC burned games but won't play the PAL games?
I can access the drive key menu by pushing eject 3 times but once inside the controller goes dead and I can't get it to connect again.
Should I try to update it?
I put another drive key of the same batch in an older wii it plays all the games fine????
What do you mean the controller (the wii remote?) goes dead when you enter the drivekey config menu? Are you trying to use it in the config menu? Config menu settings are made by pressing the reset button (quick hold to cycle and long hold to select).

Hi Im on version 4.1e and the home brew channel was installed before I updated it.
The original games work however I havent tried a copy yet.
The problem is for the life of me I cant access the drive key config via pressing the reset button 3 times.
Hello, Ill try and help and hopefully im not insulting your intelegence. What you need to do is when on the wii main menu press the EJECT button three times and you will then see in the disc channel it appears as if a GC game as been inserted its just a rom loaded from the chip its emulated a gc game inside you just go to the disc channel and click START and you are in the config menu. You not press eject 3 times on startup or anything you need to do it when in the main menu Hope that helps.

@samskyline: I am not trying to insult you either, but you do have a DriveKey modchip installed, right?!
Anyway, if you do it's like Justinra said: Just press eject quickly three times when in the main Wii system menu (should work from within the disc channel, too). Make sure you don't have any discs in the Wii disc drive when you do it.
The very first batch of DriveKey chips released in early 2009 did not have the built-in config menu and they were not updatable either. They were later pulled back from the retailers by the DriveKey team and then sold under a different name (xenoWii 2.0 chips). Check out this thread at WiiNewz: old drivekey's - WiiNewz - Wii modchip & hacking community
These first batch DriveKey chips were not region free (and did not block updates) either. Perhaps someone sold you one of those, under the DriveKey name? Did it come with a DriveKey logo sticker in the small anti-static plastic bag?

Another question I instaled the bannerbomb hack. What does this do?
??? You don't install something like that without knowing what it does! You have softmodded your Wii. There are other forum sections dedicated to softmodding.
In terms of the DriveKey, softmodding does not affect the DriveKey chip or vice versa.
