Multiplayer in Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3) on the Snes9xGx

I recently downloaded a rom of Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3) (with the english patch) to play on the Snes9xGx with my friends. I assumed that this game would function like the original Secret of Mana and allow 3 players to control each of the party member. However, only two people could play at any time, even with the multitap function enabled.

A little bit of research told me that only two people could play in the original, but that there was a patch that you could apply to the rom to allow 3 human players, yet when I applied the patch only two people could play.

I have used the Snes9xGx to play multiplayer snes games (Bomberman) before, so I know that it isn't my console or controllers.

Has anyone else played this game and experienced this problem, or have the patched .smc file?

Cool Probably Patched the Wrong Rom

The only thing that I can see as having gone wrong is that you didn't patch an headered rom.

If you have experience with patching, then you should know what that means and how to approach that and have already done so for working result...

If you don't, that is the most likely cause of error. The rom needs to be headered; if you don't know how to check for that, I recommend you look around for SNES utilities that analyse a rom and let you add/remove headers as you need.

If that doesn't work, I don't know what else could be your problem.

BTW, roms aren't supposed to be distributed with a patch...

Well, advicedog is the confusing issue; they've apparently already got their setup to let them play three players so what's going on there...

I'm no expert on the SNES9xGx but Darkdiddie, I can assume two things.

    1. The SNES originally only had two ports, and for active three player, the emulator must allow for a multitap port to recognise a third/fourth signal. Have you turned this on?

    2. If that doesn't work, have you tested your rom on a different emulator?
