Thread: Wii as a wireless Media Center (Playing DivX files stored on my PC)?

  1. #1

Lightbulb Wii as a wireless Media Center (Playing DivX files stored on my PC)?

Is there an application able to play DivX files wireless from my home PC?

    I have installed Homebrew Channel.
I have setup a wireless home network and my Wii is part of the network.
I have a lot of DivX, avi's and DVD ISO's on my home PC. I would like to play them on my TV without having to use wires or to bring my PC near my TV station.
Can my Wii do all these?

    Thanks for suggestions.

    not wirelessly.

The Wii can play DivX, XviD, .avi via homebrew app (GeexBox) & sd card.

Well this is OK.......... depending on your network speed

You could use Orb 2.0. It installs on your PC and you access your files from the wii internet browser. I tried it and it was ok... probably the best solution right now. I also tried TVersity but couldn't get the videos to play or maybe I just didn't wait long enough. Neither one is a great solution but try for yourself.

An app must becreated in order to use media sharing, but like peole above me have said orb is you best choice. It will stream all media from youir pc to your wii via internet browser. as for quility its good more like youtube videos. If it was me i would just use mplayer or geebox

thank you all for your answers.
Probably WII has a to slow wireless connection (IEEE 802.11B and not IEEE 802.11G) and that's why nobody made a madia player able to access wirelessly the network shares...

I found this link while looking for the same answers:

I downloaded it but have not tried it yet so who knows...

I have tried X-OOM recently, and I found it to be one of the worst pieces of software ever. It was basically unusable. Save yourself the wasted couple of hours. I have yet to try ORB but the Wii is not really set up to work as a media center. The best bet for a media center is still the old school xbox running xbmc.

Thanks for the heads up ^
