If I buy a Wii from Wal-Mart today (9-30-13) is it still softmodable?
For Christmas we want to get my wife's brother's family a Wii and we want it brand new since it will be a gift. They have a 7 year old, 4 years old and almost 2 year old (all boys) so we thought if I modded it (I have done four soft modding now so I am pretty comfortable) and show them how to put any new game they buy on an external hard drive (we will also be buying) so they don't have to mess with discs (especially for the two year old) it would be nice.
So my question is, are the newest runs that you would buy today in a store still soft modable with Mauifrog's "Softmod ANY Wii" guide as this is the one I have used for all my mods and it is easy for me?
The only wii that isn't good for softmodding is the Wii Mini, which has a top-loading DVD. As long as it's a "normal" (front-loading) wii you should be in good shape. Read through FAQ in my signature for more info if you're inclined.
Might consider auto-booting to loader via Prii-- works well with my 7 & 9yos I have the loader on SD so simply popping the card out renders it unbootable through normal means.
Yeah I might do that but the I am going to install the Netflix and Hulu channels so they will probably want to go to the main screen. Thanks for the answers!

Note, if it is the Wii Mini, it won't have network capabilities so you can't use Netflix or Hulu, so make sure before you buy it that it isn't a Wii Mini.
I don't think that Wii Mini is even sold in the states. I think it was a Canada thing, only. But I could be wrong.

Yeah I had never even heard or seen a Wii Mini until today in this forum ha ha.
I didn't know we had some New Philly folks here (I'm familiar with Tuscarawas County in the context of my job).

As in the New Philly Quakers?
Football team, yep. I sent someone to unlock a car @ Domino's today in your neck of the woods, lol

What town nighty?
@OP I sent over 200 pizzas to the New Philly basketball team when they had tourney games in Athens the last few years. Top notch people, never saw a more polite and respectful group of kids before....and that means something because I have seen a lot LOL
