If he's got power (he did say the red light is on), that won't solve his issue.
I put Homebrew Channel on my Wii about 2 years ago I think. Also have USB Loader. Needless to say, It has been on there a long time. So we had an electrical storm here the other night, and I think my Wii got zapped by a surge. Red light is on, but won't power up, etc. etc. Called Wii for support. Did not mention "Homebrew." Nintendo wants me to send it in for free repair. Great! Except, what will they do when they discover that I have installed Homebrew Channel? Please advise...
PS- not seeking troubleshooting advise! Just need to know if Nintendo will freak if they discover Homebrew and USB Loader on the Wii.
My bad, I missed that completely.
Sorry guys I am confused by your responses. The red light is on the front of the console but it will not power on. Nintendo offered to replace or repair it. I am concerned that they will discover it has been software modified. Maybe they won't care, maybe they will take some sort of action. I would like to have some advise. I have not shipped it to them yet. Should I? Please, this is a serious question.
Last I heard if your system is soft modded Nintendo will flat out refuse to repair it now :/
I think the OPs best bet is to find a gaming repair center. There's one where I live (well, 25miles away actually) that does repairs and system mods including mod chips (no soft mods though lol). I was a little surprised because of mod chips being generally frowned upon and mostly viewed as illegal but I'm glad they were able to stop my Wii from sounding like a chainsaw
So yeah, look around your state and see if there are any gaming stores that also do repairs and good luck
Of course another option is do-it-yourself, but I recommend against that cause if you don't know exactly what you're doing your Wii will become nothing more than a cool looking paperweight.
You can never 100% "revirginize" a system. You can do as much as you can, and Nintendo can still detect that it was modded.
I sent one to Nintendo after a brick occurred and they fixed it with no questions asked. Sent to them and had it back within a week. I maybe lucky but its worth a try.
