External DVD Drive. Help!
NOTE: I might have posted this thread into the wrong forum so if I am wrong, please tell me that with your reply.
Hey Guys, I am a newbie here so I need help badly. I have a Black Nintendo Wii which has the new disc drive that only reads Wii & GC discs (Something like that!). The only way to play backup games is to use a USB drive or HDD. I don't want to buy HDD of flash drives because it is really expensive and I don't want to use all the money on that. But I found a place where I can buy 5 DVD-R for £1 and it is working. (I know because I tested on my cusions White Wii). So my question is, Will External DVD Drives to USB work with the Wii?
I can plug it into my Wii's USB drive and then leave it there and then change the disc when I want to. This is all the info you might need to know:
Black Wii (New Disc Drive)
USB Loader GX
So that was my info above. If you need to know more about my Wii then tell me on your reply. I am a newbie at this so I don't know how to do these iOS and CIOS things and if I don't know what am doing, I might brick my Wii! So if you insist on helping me, please make it easy as possible.
P.S This is my first post/thread.
EDIT: OK, Some of you have been saying to try uLOADER, I researched about it and then I found out that you need to install CIOS 222 or something like that. Two reasons why I DON'T want to do that. 1, It is really risky, 2, I don't have access to the internet (Because I wanted to be safe so I don't get bricked). So, I need a different solution or is there a way to use uLOADER without CIOS 222 Harmes needing to be installed (Did you have to do that in the past or something?)?

I'm pretty sure using an external DVD drive will not work, but if you have an SD card you can load games from that. I'm pretty sure the only way, if your disc drive is broken, is to either replace the broken disc drive or buy a USB device. As I said you could use SD as well but SD cards only go up to 32 gigs and don't read at nearly the speed a USB 2.0 drive would.
I've been keeping an eye on the Wii-hacking scene, billyhome. I've heard that with Wiis that have D3-2 drives, you can use an external DVD-ROM drive and attach it to the Wii to override the original drive mechanisms and play backup DVD games with uLoader, but I've yet to see anything.
Have you tried it yet? Can you confirm that it works?

Reason: Just to add what I forgot
I have not yet bought the External DVD Drive yet because I am not fully sure that External DVD Drive will work. As 'laukinming' said can you confirm that it works? Has anyone tried it yet. I really want to make my Wii fun and useful!
The replies I got are saying that uLOADER and External DVD Drive will work! So now I have no clue as now I will be researching now to see if is compatible and I will report to my Post ASAP!

uLoader is old and moldy software that long-ceased development. At the traditional cost of a USB DVDROM, you can have a USB HD instead (which is fully supported). I don't see the reason to resist that option, especially since you don't have a DVDROM such as that laying around...
I edited my first post to say something about uLOADER that you guys have been telling about, so if haven't checked it out well then check it out
Your edit is non-sensical. If you follow this guide, it installs all cIOS needed (including the one you seem to have an aversion to). This is how we softmod at wiihacks; take it or leave it. And you didn't address the expense I mentioned, either...
Sorry about that. I followed MicrowaveSam's Tutorial FAILTUBE LINK REMOVED. He's Hack Pack seems to have all the .wad files and I think they are cIOS. If you see on Part 2 FAILTUBE LINK REMOVED on 11:30, It shows all the cIOS files and I have spotted cIOS222. So I've already done that long time ago when I hacked my Nintendo Wii so what should I do now? Thank you nightstah for helping me!

Reason: Removed FAILTUBE Links
If mr. Microwave had a forum or website, maintained it, and answered questions that would be a really great thing for you right about now.
When we attempt to help ppl here, we assume their console is modded to a certain standard which contains all of the Cios and IOS updates. This usually in it of itself will solve most issues for users, but if not, we can eliminate a lot of possible combinations of problems and issues by being certain a member has his or her console up to this standard. This is why you were given the link to our guide, to follow it and then we can go from there.
