Playing backup Gamecube ISO's on hacked Wii

So I've been at this for about 3 or 4 days now, making extremely slow and frustrating progress.

I've read countless different guides consisting of a multitude of different methods. Finally, yesterday afternoon, I achieved success at getting my Wii to play my backup of Wind Waker from my 2 gig USB stick through Dios Mios 8.0 and WiiFlow 4.1... But, the loading times are horrendously slow. Moving from one area to another usually takes at least 10-15 seconds, and other loading screens can take more than one whole minute, maybe two (I haven't actually timed it).

In a desperate attempt to speed things up, I downloaded the latest version of Dios Mios Lite and played my backup through NeoGamma hoping that my 4 gig SDHC card would load more quickly, but it actually went twice as slow.

Then I tried using WBFS Manager 4.0 with GC compatibility to convert my Wind Waker ISO to WBFS format and put it on my 8 gig WBFS formatted SDHC card (which plays my wii backups just fine), but then I began to learn that I need a mod chip in order to play WBFS formatted GC games *sigh*.

This is the first attempt I've made to ask anyone for help. Has anyone been thorough this? Can anyone help me? I don't want to go through the trouble of backing up all my GC games if I can't really play them right, you know? What do I do?

The devolution guide would probably be a good place to start

The fact that you thought that loading from an SD card would be faster than a USB device is fascinating. How did you come up with that?

Neogamma will not work with the latest DM or DML. If you try to use DM or DML, you need to have the latest version of a USB loader that will work with 2.8 (all three of them are conviently located in my signature for downloading, in addition to a guide to follow for installing DM/DML.

And for preparing the games for DM/DML use, you should use the DMToolbox application that comes with DM/DML 2.8 and save the output in the sd:/games or usb:/games directory.

    Download the latest:
    Latest Loaders CFG v70r65
    GX r1226
    WiiFlow 4.2.1
    Other downloads DM/DML 2.11

Devolution wasn't working out for me (ripped the game just fine, but I couldn't get WiiFlow or any of my other USB loaders to recognize it on the drive), so I just formatted my Wii and reinstalled the exact same versions of MD and WiiFlow I had before, and what do you know, everything loads just fine now. I guess I just had too much junk floating around and it was causing some problem somewhere. Which is good to know, cause I've seen a number of folks on several different forums and sites complaining about slow load times with MD, and not one of the discussions contained a straightforward experience-based solution.

But I still appreciate the suggestion Pob. Somehow in all my hours of research I still hadn't come across Devolution and I intend on trying to use it again with my newly formatted and re-hacked Wii.

If you need any help with Devolution just post your inquiry in the guide and I, or some other experienced user, will help you out if we can .

From what you describe it sounds like either your games were not in the correct location on the drive relative to where your loader looks for them, you didn't specify which paths the games were in via the loader settings (only applies to USB Loader GX), you didn't have the Devolution loader.bin, you didn't enable Devolution in the loader settings or you didn't enable your loader to view GC games by setting the proper filters.

It's also possible that which ever loader(s) you used at the time were outdated. But as I said, if you decide to give Devolution another try post in the guide (link in signature) and I'll try to help you out.
