Capcom have released a new update patch in Japan that allows Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate players to play online with the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, by connecting it to their Wii U.
The update patch called the ‘Packet Relay Tool’ was made available to download at the conclusion of today’s Nintendo Direct presentation in Japan, thanks to the many Hunters and their feedback on wanting an option for the 3DS version to go online.
In order to connect the 3DS to the Wii U, you’ll need to have a Wii U LAN adapter (sold separately) connected directly to your modem or router with a LAN cable.
Once you have your 3DS connected to the Wii U, select your character data.
You will then have the option to play online or offline through the ‘Search Friend’ menu.
Find the player that is connected on the Wii U and join their game to play online.
Do note that only one 3DS/3DS XL can be connected to the Wii U to play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate at a time when using this feature.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is slated to be released on March 19th in North America and March 22nd in Europe, with a demo to be available to download later today. Capcom have not yet announced the Packet Relay Tool update for the U.S. and European versions of the game.
Something else to note is that Monster Hunter 4—also in development for the Nintendo 3DS—will have online play built into it from the get-go, and will be able to go online normally, like other online multiplayer 3DS games, without the need for a Wii U. That game is slated for release in Japan this Summer.
