just follow the softmod any wii guide and u will be good to go on completion
I have a couple of Wii's that I did some mod work to a little over a year ago. Problem is, I don't remember what I did exactly and I want to make sure what I do now is safe. Hopefully, someone can offer some advice.
I did not mod both of them the same. My primary Wii was soft modded using Mauifrogs guide to boot to WiiFlow and also had homebrew. This one worked for about a year, until my HDD died - or at least I think it died. But that is another issue. Since I have the actual discs of the games I want to play, I started using my other Wii, that was not fully modified.
So, that is where I want to start, but like I said, I don't fully remember what I did to this one. I do know that it it starts at the Wii menu, but I had added two other channels - Wiiflow and Homebrew. There is no SD card in this wii. It appears to have 4.1u. I am pretty sure that I changed some settings to disable the automatic updates and other common recommendations at the time - end of 2011.
It will play other games just fine, but I just got Madden 12 and it will not play it. When I select if from the disc channel, I get the preview screen, but when I select start, the screen goes black and nothing else ever happens.
I thought about doing a system update, but thought I might check here to see what advice I can get. I don't want to risk bricking it, and would probably be just fine if this one Wii was just put back to "stock". I can work on my other one later.
Well, with 389 pages, I got a little intimidated and did not want to miss anything that might be important without reading the whole thread.
Also, I thought there might be a shortcut since I did not really need/want to fully mod this wii, unless that really is the best option.
Is everything covered in Guides Bot's 1st post? It says it works with 4.3u/e/j/k Is it fine to start with 4.1u?
Well, I have been thinking about it and, I think I would still like to keep one of my Wii's close to stock - for a backup.
So.. I think I will concentrate on my modded Wii. - The one that was running WiiFlow with the USB drive. I was unable to figure out how to run a game right from the disk.
So, I am thinking I will just start over with a softmod on it, which should get everything up to date.
However... unlike last time, I do not want to run any usb loaders for now(until I figure out what is wrong with my drive).
Has there been worthwhile changes in the last year that would make a complete re-do worthwhile, or should I just make minor changes to be able to run from the disk?
Let me do a little reading and I will see if I can get a syscheck for you
This was on the SD card i just took out. It looks current.

Well, I was able to get to the Wii menu on my modded Wii, by holding down the reset button, then selecting from the menu. - Like I said, It's been a while since I fooled with this stuff.
Madden works on that one.(same one from the syscheck above).
So, I am not sure now if I want to re-do the softmod. Not sure I can see an advantage. Is there one?
Meanwhile, I have been working on getting a replacement USB drive configured. I am able to put the hdd in a pc and read it, but it will not work in another external usb case. So, I am now copying the 60gb of files from one to another. Hopefully it will work.
