Thread: What is the point of bootmii?

    What is the point of bootmii?

    is it really that necessary to have bootmii on a hacked wii?

    I have homebrew channel installed but hesitated on the bootmii installation because it could not be installed as boot 2... And I heard brick risk is higher if it is installed on boot 1...

    I ran the homebrew channel and ran a snes emulator and all went smoothly... But I want to play backups via usb because there is something wrong with my disc reader (my inspiration for modding)...

    So i wonder; is bootmii really that necessary? Is it really risky to install it on boot 1? Would it be risky if I did not install it?

    You can't install it on boot1. The only options are boot2 and IOS. Installing BM on boot2 allows you to recover from almost any brick. But if you can't you should still install it as an IOS. Ih provides an easy way to backup your NAND, as well as some other useful things. As far as I know, there are no reported cases of BM IOS bricking your Wii, so go ahead and install it. It may be that new-ish versions of the HBC install it automatically, not sure. Anyway, if you haven't done it yet, be sure to follow the Softmod Any Wii guide (link in my sig).

    dniMretsaM explained it above pretty much as best as can be explained. It is added brick protection, among other useful things. Without writing a book using a bunch of terms that you probably wouldnt understand anyways (mind you everything you could ever want to know about bootmii is on this site for your reading pleasure), lets just go with "Yes you should install it". It wont hurt anything.

    But it's your Wii, do with it as you wish.

    EDIT: Sorry for butting in on your thread here dniMretsaM

    From the hacking FAQ's BootMii section (link in my sig, you should read the whole thing);
    Anyone who is installing the homebrew channel or softmodding a wii needs to make, and keep a copy of the NAND backup.
    Install BootMii.

    EDIT: BootMii IOS is automatically installed if your using HackMii Installer >= 0.7.

    You have kids? You drive'em around in a car? How necessary are seatbelts? Do they fix broken bones? Nope; do they aid in AVOIDING broken bones? Yup
