Thread: Why all these read errors?

  1. #1

Question Why all these read errors? (CFG loader) [SOLVED]

    Thx for reading!

I recently softmodded my Wii and ask myself if the following is normal.

If I insert a original disk and dump it to the HDD it always throws a bunch of warnings at the end of the process.
"WARNING: read (10digit number) error (-2)"
    or
"WARNING: read (10digit number) error (-2)1"
The disks are brand new and unscratched.

Playing the disk from the DVD drive or from HDD goes fine as far as I can tell.

    Am I missing something?

    I'm using CFG v70r49.

Every now and then I get a read error, but it's not every time, and it hasn't affected the games. I think CFG re-reads the sector in question, and throws the error.

Could it possibly be a dirty lens? (I'm not sure, just throwing a suggestion out there).

  3. #3
I guess my Wii is 4 years old, so yes it could be a dirty lens, who knows?
But I never had problems playing disks with the DVD drive.

Do you also see the errors at the end of the process with high numbers? (10 digits)
Looks like mine is always doing this at the end of the disk.

Found the solution by experimenting myself.
Because I used the "install_partitions = iso" setting it gave me the read errors.
I guess the DVD drive tried to read until the edge to make sure.
I deleted this line which makes the default
    [only_game] active.
(Quicker and smaller file size as well.)

    And,.... no more read errors.
