Semi brick? Have video, no audio.

Hi, I recently purchased a Wii that has video but no audio. This is a default formatted wii with 4.3u firmware. The system was not cared for well. Very dirty. So I took it apart to clean it and see if any wires were loose. Everything looks legit on the inside.

I've tried multiple TVs and cables with the same result.

From what I've read here it sounds like it may be a dirty softmod install.

Do you think running Mauifrog's softmod any wii guide will set this straight? Or is there anything else you can think of that might be the issue?

    Thanks for your time.

I had a couple of wii's where the audio just went out, they were never hacked, so they just had the audio problems, I never tried softmodding them, but i don't think it would change anything, just my opinion.

Weak. I was hoping it wasn't a hardware issue. I haven't seen any full video, no audio issues relating to general hardware failure through my googling. Unless I find a working motherboard for $10, a switch is definitely not economical.

I could be wrong, but like I said I'm positive is not a software related issue, actually you just gave me an idea, I still have 2 i think... I'll softmod one of them and I'll let you know if something changes.... just for fun

well..... good news and bad news, good news: now I have a perfectly softmoded wii....... bad news:but no audio still, I even installed the patched 4.1u system menu to no luck.
I was almost 100% that it wasn't a software issue, but at least now we know that softmodding it won't change anything, i have lots of extra wii parts, it will be interesting to hear if changing a part could fix the no audio issue, I never bother trying to fix them, I just kept them for parts, not sure if they can be fix.

You are awesome. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot my issues. I may be on the lookout for some cheap motherboards then. Loss of audio isn't critical anyway. I have another perfectly functional wii. I just wanted this one to tinker with softmodding. Paid $30 for it knowing there wasn't audio. I like fixing stuff.

You know if the a/v input can be replaced or is it soldered to the main board?

or maybe it could be a bad cable? ive replaced my av cables twice in 5 years of having a wii. regardless of hacking it. the cable i use is a hd universal av cable sets me back about $18 usd

I tried two sets of composites and a set of component from my working wii. No luck.
