Replacing DVD Drive and GC Backup Question

    Hi,

I have a wii which will not play GC backups through disk, now my question would be, if I replace the dvd drive on the wii with one that does work with GC backups, would I be able to use my official Action Replay to play a GC backup with codes?

My next question is, does anyone know all the dvd drive models that DO support GC backups?

    Thanks.

Check wiidrives.com and enter your Wii serial number, it will tell you what you need

    This is what I get.

    • There is a 40% chance the chipset is GC2-D2C2 (v2) and the drive has the new metal clip.
    • And there is also a 60% chance the chipset is GC2-D2E.

    Then I'd go with a GC2-D2E.

But I don't think D2E can play GC backups correct? Can I replace my D2E optical drive with a D2C drive?

yes, you can swap D2E drive with D2C drives.

Awesome, good to know. And that will act just like a D2C drive right, so I can load backups from dvd's?

yes, have fun with your backup DVD's.
install a D2E modchip, apply softChip, apply NeoGamma...... try all these methods, then you'll learn more .
