Here give this a read
Hi, I am about to prepare my "Western Digital My Book Essentials WDBACW0020HBK-NESN 2TB - (External Power Supply) - Working" which is listed on the compatibility list. I'm looking for any suggestions as to how to partition the drive (size-wise). Ideally I would still like to use the drive and be able to manipulate PC files (movies, documents, etc.), and would like to use it as a replacement for the SD card - running homebrews, emulators from it. I am really having trouble figuring out how many partitions I need, and what format to use on each. I have read theLoading, Ripping, and Playing Wii Game Backupsfrom an External USB Hard Disk Driveguide, but still am confused as to what would be ideal. Do I need to have 500gb for WBFS, 500gb for FAT32, and 1TB for NTFS? I'm kinda lost. Any suggestions based on experience would be a great help. Thanks!

Softmod any Wii guide
Awesome, that was a great help, thanks! Is there any way for me to test to make sure my drive works before I softmod? (The Manufacturer/size of my drive is on the USB Compatibility list - but the label is slightly different)
I have that same drive and it does work. The only issue is it freezes at the"initializing usb device" page on USB Loader GX. The only work around i have been able to find so far is to unplug the power cord from the hard drive before you start up your Wii and don't plug it back in until you load up USB Loader GX. Other than that minor annoyance the drive works perfectly for me. Hope that helps.
