25th Anniversary Red Wii playing backups - Options

Just bought myself a pre-owned 25th Anniversary Red Wii console. I already have an original release white one which I softmodded a couple days ago along with the red one. Since the Red console is going to my brother, I'd like to make backups of the expensive games (Mario ones mainly) and let him use the backups. Problem is, the white console plays backups fine but the red one says "Drive too new for DVD-R"

What are my options to get this system to play backups on disc? I don't want to use an external HDD, I'd rather use discs. I also don't know what chipset is on the console, is there a way I can figure it out without cracking it open?

    Thanks!

There is no way for you to play backups from disc on the red Wii. The only way would be to use a usb hdd or usb stick or a big sd card.

No modchip or drive board swaps?

I don't mind opening it. What drive board should I look for? Is there a possible modchip that might work?

After instaling drive chip D2E (whole dvd drive or just drive board) or lower u will be able to play backup games. No modchip will allow you to play backup discs with your orginal drive.

I'm still looking for a compatible chipset. All the ones I find are $60+. For $10 more, I can re-buy all the games and at least I'll be able to sell the games in the future. Know any good places to buy? Is there a way I can look at the board and tell the chipset so I can buy a used one off Ebay?
