Upgrading from 3.4e
I will be arriving back from uni for easter on Thursday as my wii is at my family home and i have ordered DJ Hero 2. After googling the game, i have found out that you need an update to play it (probably later than 3.4, which i believe i have)
I have looked at the 'Softmod Any Wii' guide and it looks very straight forward. I says that if you have softmodded your wii from a different guide, which i probably did, you should do all the steps. Is this the best thing to do, just follow it from point 1 onward?
Is there a way to update my wii to 4.2/4.3? Whether that is 'taking off' the mods and re-doing it or just updating the mods?
I have also heard about preloader/priiloader that will solve the update problem
Which is the best solution? I know preloader/priiloader would be the quickest to implement but i wouldn't mind doing a bit of extra work to get my wii to 4.2 or 4.3, if 4.3 can be modded and is compatible with HBC, WiiFlow/USBLoader etc
Just looking for more experienced options
The best thing to do would be to update your system menu (through the settings) which will put your wii on 4.3.
Then follow this guide:

But isnt there a chance of bricking???
I don't think your wii will brick - the homebrew stuff just wot work properly until you softmod it again?
Did you read somewhere that this can brick your wii? If so, where did you get this info from?
Doesn't upgrading reset all the ios's and stuff so then, if it works, i can just re-mod it (which i can do).
Just I always read don't upgrading via nintendo... just incase
Have you ever upgraded while softmodded?
I will wait for more opinions anyway
No I haven't upgraded while being sofmodded - I left my wii on 4.2 and followed a guide on another site about a year ago.
Have a think about it and look around this site - the mods on this site have plenty of experience so they will probably help you out on this.

Don't update from Nintendo.
If you are softmodded and want to update, follow the softmod any Wii guide from the spoiler that says "softmods with homebrew installed"

is there a way to reset it to factory then re-softmod?
Do yourself a favor and read the newbies guide in my signature. Quick answer, no need to reset anything. That would be unhelpful.

You say its unhelpful but that means it can be done, right?
I would rather start from basically scratch
I would prefer to have the genuine 4.3e and then soft-mod. So if i update via nintendo, what will happen?
